I guess you just know your car.. If maintenance items are up to date and car is used often I see no reason why it cannot take a longer road trip.
I personally feel I can jump into the 335i and drive anywhere without worry and that car has driven some Long stretches at a time. But as already stated it is important to not be naive, anything can happen on the road, so being over prepared is never a bad thing..

@Nobz330i , i think every E46 Owner Watches the Temp gauge and OIL light like hawks when driving long distance or in traffic :fencelook:

Pre inspections are also very good at least 1 week before you trip

Lol I agree, I got a few and took out the mini tire pump thing that came from the F20 and put it in the E46 lol it’s more suited there.

Yes.
Most insurance companies have a list of tow and assist providers - the vetting process is questionable.

The AA have a fleet of dedicated tow/assist vehicles and they will even provide you with a new battery and accept mobile credit card payments!

Where the AA does not have coverage (very rare), they will contact a vetted service provider to assist.

Go for the premium AA option that covers both accident and maintenance breakdowns. They will even tow the car to your insurer's requested yard, if you do not wish to use their AA storage yard.

I would be so bold as to say that the AA beats even the free roadside assist included with most maintenance plans...

I've had my fair share of unreliable cars that let me down/broke down. Eventually, I got a feel for how a car beaves that would determine if I trust it enough to take a long trip.

These days with warranties and roadside assist and all those luxuries... there are no worries in my mind when taking a trip anywhere.

N54 owners...i take injectors & fuel pump & coils & wastegate rattle repair kit & spare turbos & a BMW mechanic ...attach a Venter trailer and BOOM
or i drive with a team...cause race car

back in the bad old days my papa would do trips...guys would work on their own cars and some even do rebuilds before trips....like 4 or 5 cars & if anything happened you would sort it out together...my dad also did trips with fam or friends...but they had cressidas & skylines and old bmws etc. ...was get in and go. aaahhhhh the memories ...nothing like a road trip with the fam....there would always be the slow ass uncle...and the two guys in front who are undercover racing :=):

I learnt my lesson the easy.

Bought 330i M54 in Durban. Drove it down to Cape Town. Looked at the expansion tank when I got here and found it was the original from 2001 :hammerhead:

Then I found the thermostat was stuck open :hammerhead:

Replaced the expansion tank, thermostat and waterpump a week later after buying the car.

Luckily car was fine, but it could have gone so wrong. mgwaiting:
