Locking of vanos on S50B32

Im thinking of going this route on my E30 with a 3.2 M3 motor normally aspirated
1st of all i have the motor already and the Vanos is not in very good condition and im not sure if there is any aftermarket management to control the dual vanos correctly or else i would do a rebuild on it , i have the Dicktator 60-2 management and the vanos locking plates already , now im not sure if anyone has locked the vanos on a normally aspirated M3 however i do know that im going be losing low down torque ,but i have no idea as to how much though
Keep in mind this not going be a race car as such , more of a weekend kind of car as i got myself a clean E30 2dr specimen like i always wanted

Any help /feedback regarding the vanos issue ?
Thanks in advance

I would not do this to a street car... on a track car that spends all its time in high RPM you could do it :)

If you staying NA why the need for management?

oops i forgot to add that i do not have the engine wiring and ecu , then theres also issue of EWS and key from the donor car:bangdesk:
so management is the easiest way out at the moment

A VEMS management can control the vanos, rather have it rebuilt than locked...
You can speak to Moranor about the Beisan seals or get it fully returned at Dr Vanos...

I'm not all set on the option of removing the vanos as i know the advantage it has
VEMS u say , who sells , install and tunes these in Durban? also need feedback from somone that has used it , as alot claim they can control it , but as i say im trying get intouch with someone that has used in the application than im doing

any help on some of the international E30 forums maybe?

I have heard the normal systems can control single vanos but its not really like factory.

Also, in an E30 are you really going to miss that little bit of torque?

yep there are aftermarket ecu's overseas that can control but they cost an arm and a leg or maybe more lol then come the issue of getting someone tuning it here.... about the torque im not sure as to howmuch is lost and thats what im trying to figure out aswell

Locking vanos will not be the major drop in torque that every1 thinks(and im talking from experience). Just imagine bmw's b4 vanos, still 'torquey' ryt.......... Its still a six. Since you already have the management and locking plates, lock it. It will make your life alot simpler in the long run and you can go with some agressive cams and have a beast. Old dutch racing will be the best guys to speak to.

Thanks guys
So far im still contemplating, im hoping its not alot that is lost, although i have heard u could play around on the dyno and try and get the low down torque curve, i have spoken to my tuner & he used the locking plates before but only on turbo or supercharged applications
I also heard that once locked it has lupmy idle like it has some hectic cams anyone knows if thats correct?

Turbo and Nos connection in jhb might be stockists of VEMS, or just look up any of the Megasquirt dealers in SA...cos from what I know VEMS was a rewrite from the old Megasquirt system

Moosa will be able to tune the car for you

You should be able to use any general purpose output from an
aftermarket ECU to control vanos. i.e. NOS, launch, Gearchange etc.

NOTE : This will be an on/off option only. This requires that you can
access/setup this control (output pin) at any set rpm (~4000) in the software.

Search (google) Megasquirt or VEMS info on www

8?>

yeah that i know , but from what i know the dual vanos is variable and that becomes a problem
The Megasquirt or VEMS are very expensive

If you going to lock the vanos just throw in a Ford motor.:roflol:

If you lock the cams in fully advanced position the idle will be lumpy. You can lock it midway but whatever you do you will compromise. I would rather stick it out and take longer with the build and try use a OEM ecu as well as fixing the vanos. I know OB has non EWS software which he doesn't sell for moral purposes but in your case I am sure he will bend the rules.

In the long run the stock ECU with Vanos will be smoother and better to drive... aftermarket ECU will be anything from acceptable to horrible compared to the stock ecu...

for this application I have no doubt the stock ecu is the way to go...
