so the e60 im about to buy failed the roadworthy test due to worn out rear tyres. The current owner was not willing to replace them as i drove the price down by quite a substancial amount already...cut to the story, I was willing to replace the tyres up untill he said he lost the lock key for the wheels.

anybody know how much these keys are?
Also the car has no books but owner says a full record can be obtained by BMW...can this be?

thanks guys

if all else fails, the locknuts can be removed quite easily using a special socket that grips the locknut on the outside, and is kept by most reputable tyre shops..

I saw a BMW tech wit a small case with all kinds of lock nut sockets the other day.
Get them to remove it for you.

cost me R120 at dealer last year,
They got a small case with all the diff keys, the actual lock nut has a number on the tip of the bolt that shows which key it corresponds with.
Take the car to them they can loosen the lock nuts for you.

With regards to your service history question, I also tried to find out the history of my car and all I had to give the BMW service person was the VIN number. They then gave me the full history with regards to the Motorplan history. She then said that it is possible to find out from the individual garages it was serviced at if there were any cash deals done. You have to phone the all the service garages and give them the VIN number and they will give you the history.

NOW....if you dont have the service book you wont be able to see where it was serviced last, and wont be able to determine which garage to phone. :bangdesk:

The Motorplan history can tell you which garages were used up to the last sevice( on Motorplan), so try them first.

Hope I got my facts right, I'm new in this game.

thanks for that. im not !00% sure of the buy. its a 2005 model but theres no books, no wheel brace, no jack. Interior and exterior in good nick, drives like it floats...just skeptical of whether or not its actually been cared for.
