Liquimoly for the E36 328i - tech spec inside

was about 500ml usage for every 2000kms odd, when i changed to liquimoly the oil usage stopped altogether. Coincidence? I think not.

My e36 318i hated toptec 4100. Chowed it for breakfast.
Back on good ol 20w50 and all is good.

Not saying there is anything wrong with it, plenty of guys are having brilliant results. Just that my car hated it.

apparently those valvetronic engines are infamous for burning oil and sludging up due to blocked oil separators.

Yip.. I added 1l about 500Km ago as the OBC said add 1l... now when I check its showing as halfway between full & add marks on the electronic dipstick

My car is also running 20w50,and it uses no oil what so ever!:thumbsup:

Just did an oil service, put in 10W-60, car is more silent in comparison to the 10W-40 I previously had.
But 5W-40 is the spec oil.

I need to do something to quiet my lifters. Want to try and find a fully synthetic 5w50 or 0w50 if possible. 10w40 is a bit too thin after the 20w50 that was in the car when I bought it.

The liqui moly hydraulic lifter additive I used as well didnt help the lifter noise unfortunately.

Mine somehow became noisier after using LiquiMoly - explanation I got was that the LM actually cleaned the gunk off the parts which then caused the noise??

Anyways .. using Magnatec again and no issues.

It is true that a higher quality oil will clean off the dirt that was keeping the parts silent. Thats what happened when I switched to Hx7.

What grade is magnatec?

Shell helix ultra cleans the crap out of you engine, in my book its one of the best oils out there.

How it cleaned my 318i with 105k km's:

Magnatec is 10w40 and crap.

@legacy, I wish we could have taken photos like that before I started using Helix Ultra in my car.. its been in there for about 4000Km's so far..

Mine @ about 245000km (vanos repair DIY):

The repair was worth every cent :joy:

No Sludge was found at all. Castrol Magnatec 10W40 was used up to now (since I bought it in 2005 anyway). I believe there are better oils out there.

For the KZN / Durban guys - you can buy Liqui Moly at Speed Shop in Springfield Park - Umgeni Road. 5L will cost you R400. I bought some the other day and will be trying it in my M3 very soon.

LOL, yeah i think we all learnt that way after the first service. Buying oil for top ups is just too expensive, i usually just buy 2X 5 litre oils. I use Castrol GTX on my 328i whats your opinion on that oil?
