Limp mode 320i E46

my 320i e46 went into limp mode and just remain in 3rd gear. After diagnosing transmission issue by the mechanic, he noticed a drop in ATF and topped by almost a litre, did a reset and everything went fine. But after driving for 2days (about 50km), limp mode came back. Any idea what could be causing this?

If it's stuck in third its a bigger transmission issue

There's a good chance the BOX needs to come out

My did that and my BOX had to be replaced

Did you check if the fluid is down again?

Mechanic did a gearbox sump service and pcv replacement and problem seems solved.
