Life with my E34's
Since buying the 540I in Sept 2010 we have being just coughing up $$$ to bring it up to my standard.
A damn good service, replaced all gaskets, seals etc... And flushed all the oils including the auto box, new tyres and shocks, replaced break disc's and pads - Previous owner was a uncaring b1tch.
Upgraded ICE (OMG - more wires and boxes for the BMW radio than the space shuttle had to be removed - 2 day for the pros) and fitted some personal touches like louder hooters for local taxi: argh::argh:
Still to do list - paintwork is fading etc.
Last weekend - road trip to Potchefstroom 950Km x 2
Picked the 540I from Keith (the Mech) on Friday and drove to Potchefstroom in 11 hours, damn road works at Smithfield 1:30 hour delay and -1.5c
Thank goodness for heated seats.
Return trip on Sunday afternoon
Stopped at Stop and go 40km north of Smithfield -2C, driver's window decides to fail and drop into the doors
Hmmm! Sunday night middle of nowhere and 600km to go - thank you -540 B1tch!!!!
Lucky my friends had given me a beanie earlier in the day. Oh well turned up the radio and up my foot down - the sound of that V8 helped to forget about the cold and the window
I'm not admitting to anything about the speeeeeeeeeeeeeeed I was not looking at the dash board , apart from the temp readout – 4.5C, brrr
The heater system and heated seats worked well
Monday morning – Floods in East London, Dad returned the 525i so the 540 could go to Keith to be fix the window, hmm
The 525i has been driving on dirt roads and sitting next the brick works, so it is full of clay dust. :argh:
Back to weather, I was glad I was in a heavy car, with the bad wind etc. on Monday
It was nice to have the old girl back again, since enough driving the crap out of her.
Friday 11:30am returning to office, pulled up lights, in front of us is a blue E39 with a very very nice sound , with MP plate and German tech or something in the back window. As E39 pulls away the sound only got better, oh how I miss my 540i and I want that exhaust on my V8!

Nice bunch of cars there.

Noticed the pic of the rust. Mine is also rusting in the same place. So is quite a few other e34 that I have seen.

Here at the coast we do not go to the sea often , we have to wash car when we get home !! A bit of paraffin in washing water helps in the long term . The e36 like to rust around rear window and bottom edge of boot !!

It appears that Ashley and Uber have the lion's share of E34's remaining in S.A with the E32's thrown in forgood measure...:praise:

Congrats on a set of truly sexy girls, and the doggie. The e34 is such a top car, have owned no less then five during my time, and only one was a bit of a dog ( no pun intended ). My mother still drives one, and I recently persuaded my girlfriend to get one. Although a bit big for her, she is not looking back as regards the general reliability, comfort, and just plain awesomes of these cars. 5 out of 5 to you :praise:

Hi
Just an update
Got the 540i back on Saturday, from Keith, a “new” replacement driver window mechanism but the brakes where not done yet, received 3 different back wheel discs sets so far, only to find out we have M5 discs on the car and will cost 900 bucks more.:thumbdo:
Should be sorted this week. The Big girl needs the stopping power

It took an hour and half to get back from the workshop on Saturday afternoon, which is only 2km away, we took a 90km detour, and I missed my “baby”

Karen (a co-worker who lift clubs with us) was happy to see the 540 again this week, “she just loves the bum warmers “ and prefers the 540i to mom’s 535i even when I drive away over the national sp… l… (Cough) may be that is why I get 5.7km/litre. –She says the 540i just feels safe to her, the 525i feels like a solid and honest car – which is what I felt when I drove the 525i the first time.

Got a small issue with the V8, when pulling away slowing, engine is rough jerks and coughs around 900/1000 rpm and sometimes dies on me. If I gas it the motor runs fine.
We have cleaned the injectors; new filters etc. and I try not to run with less than a ¼ tank of petrol. Running on 93 lead replacements.
May have to get someone else to look the motor.

Cheers
