Hello

Any1 here driving an older model 06 - 09/10 IS250. If so , please share some some insights on the car , like maintenance costs , practicality , maintenance cost , know issues , maintenance costs , everyday consumption , etc. There a few available at decent prices and seem to be very worthwhile in considering the standard "extras" they come with.

TIA

Buddy of mine bought a used one a few years back. Its heavy on fuel and doesn't have the punch of a 320d but very smooth and reliable. He replaced the alternator some time back. Service is about the same as a 3 series. Its not as sporty as a 3 series, but if you looking for comfort instead, its a great buy.

Rather look out for the IS350 of that generation.
The IS250 is a bit underpowered, but if you get a good deal, then reconsider.

Had one alongside an E90 for almost 2 years - much better built car in every way and utterly reliable. However, they are getting on in age, so expect higher maintenance/running costs for something 10+ years old.

Only issue is that service parts are expensive compared to BMW. However, beyond this, very little goes wrong, unless you buy an abused/wrecked car. If you're looking for a performance car, consider the IS350. If you want a relaxing commuter or long distance cruiser, I'd take one over any regular comparable 3 series any day after owning both. The 250 has decent performance - it's just very refined, so that adds to the feeling of it being slower as well. It is thirsty if you drive it hard, but again, something like a BMW diesel will have more issues to fix so running cost evens out over time against fuel.

Also, the IS250 SE is very well equipped. It makes any regular E90 of similar era feel like a Tata from both a quality and spec perspective. BMW owners that never owned a Lexus won't relate to this...

Average consumption of exactly 10l/100km over 34k KM. Mostly city driving (78%) in Gauteng's awesome traffic...

Have two of these in the family, first one has done over 200k km and the other just over 130k.

Mechanical issues/costs :
Alternator went on the newer one ironically.
Spark plugs used to be quite expensive to replace
Only direct injection so you want to have the intakes and valves cleaned every few years, we did this at carbon doctor

Other issues :
The xenon bulbs go, but there are plenty of replacements around.
The touch screen navigation goes, we bought the part on ebay and replaced at home
If you don't do your balancing and alignment, and follow the tyre pressure guide, they will eat tyres. Also SA shipped these with a narrow/wide tyre set that can be harder to find. Research says safe to replace them all with the narrows, the 250 really doesn't have the power to require that rear grip anyway.

Aside from this, great cruiser with all the comforts you need. Great value for money if you find one with just over 100k mileage. Note if you hunt down a 350 in this model, it will be quite heavy on fuel as it still uses the 6 speed vs the newer shape 350 that uses an 8 speed gearbox.

Personally - looking for an IS-F, but they're rare and old so the condition is always rough.

I own a 08 IS250 have had it for 50kkm.
Been utterly reliable, had to change out the water pump and belt, bought the parts from Amazon.

General services are done at Lexus Fourways +-R1600 per service
