Lets Talk Down Pipes

Guys
I have been reading a lot about down pipes and most of the guys say that by changing the down pipe on the e90 diesels helps with the life of the turbo.

Now I want to do the down pipe at Xflow and I know Gert did advise me some time ago of a way of getting rid of the error code.

Is the above about changing the down pipe all correct and always beneficial.

My insight

Downpipe Pro's

Slightly more power
Less heat build up by the turbo due to exhaust gasses getting out quicker
Less restriction = Possibly (unsure) increase turbo lifespan
Again, possibly better fuel consumption although most people don't notice a difference

Downpipe Con's

Fumes smell on the petrol
More visible smoke from the diesels
Error codes (Even if they don't show up on your dash they could pop up when running diagnostics)
Not motorplan friendly unless you go for a BMW friendly one like ACS...

I had a DP, de-cat and software done with Xcede and I'm happy with the result, someone mentioned ingress smell of fumes but that's not the case. There is a louder engine sound but only when you plant your foot, fuel consumption is better and throttle is more responsive and less lag.

My advice?

DO IT!!!!!!!!!!

If you put cat foolers you shouldn't get an error code. The downpipe will replace the stock pipe that contains the dpf so fitting a downpipe automatically means you doing a dpf delete as well. :coolShake:

if your car is a November 2010 build (with 2011 reg), very possible you won't need cat foolers at all. Adel and myself had the same experience, took the cars in, cut and replace and done with no issues.

costed little compared to cat foolers and all other stuff etc

i did a 76mm dp and full 63mm straight exhaust over the weekend.

only con i have is there is a more distinct smell of diesel fumes.
loving the grunt my 330d now has. and the dp definitely improved my fuel consumption. not by much but it did make a difference and the car spools up so much better now.

Hi My Car is a 2011 August and October 2011 registered
Its the 135kw and 380nm

So there is allot of different ways around this.
what I need to know is if just doing the down pipe with cat foolers work without throwing any errors.
