Leaking in engine bay

Hey guys

This morning when I went to open up my baby to check oil and water , I found that its leaking some white liquid . Its not too much but its at the front just at the beginning of the engine. Help please . Is this serious as I need to drive down to Newcastle this afternoon .

Is that not maybe your washer fluid that's leaking?
What does the fluid smell like?
Maybe your BMW is having wet dreams? :rollsmile:

Maybe a pic of the fluid and where you found it.....though I can't think of any white fluid used by the car :dunno:

Could possible have a crack on the water bottle.
There no other fluids i can think of that are white(in the car i mean)

Hey guys sorry late reply to this thread , returned from holiday and never used my car on holiday so finally took a picture this morning

Yup that is the residue left by dried up coolant.

From the pic it would look like it came from the thermostat housing, possibly a leak from where it mounts on or a crack in the housing itself.

Is it serious ? I haven't been using her much for the last two weeks , kinda got a love for the E90 . But she's only gonna get fixed in the new year :(

Well any problem on the cooling system is pretty serious, as overheating can result which can pretty much destroy the engine, especially an engine like the M54.

I would sort this out as soon a possible.

You think its safe enough for a small trip ? Jhb to Pta ? My dad looked at it and said its nothing too serious
