Launching a E46 M3

Hi Guys.

Where would you probably launch a E46 M3 from? What RPM and what technique would you use?

My dad has one (coast) and I can never seem to get it right! I tryed at 4000rpm and 3500rpm but I don't think the launch was too great...

Gear change? Do you take the car close to limiter or somewhere else?

Hi,

I doubt your pops will be too happy with you searching online on how to give his car the beans..!!
But none the less , this is what i Do.

Take it to about 3800-3900 , wait for go time and then drop the clutch as fast as you can. You will
get quiet a bit of tyre screeching, and just watch the rev counter, the revs will pick up almost to red-line
but thats because the wheels are still spinning.. DON'T change yet...as soon as the tyres bite the revs are gonna drop to about 5.5 rpm and then the car lurches forward , now you can change at red-line.

That is up here on the reef, I have no idea how the car performs at the coast.

P.S. I have very fat tyres on the rear , that might make a difference as well ( 275 )

im not sure on the M3 (as i dont have one) and i stand to be corrected on this, but on my old ladies E46 we got the traction control switch, make sure that is on, with wheels spinning crazy you will loose time until the car gains some traction, the traction contol will decrease power thus forcing the car to gain traction faster and allowing you to launch quicker. unless you a cowboy and love the crazy spinning then hit it maxxed out and ride on

Bud there are many ways to kill a bull but only one way to launch an M3 properly!
I dont spin even a little bit even with the 3.91 diff and i can guarantee you i have more than enough power to make a nice smoke show! i average about 1.8 - 2.0s 60ft.. with every day street tyres!

This is what you do! raise your revs to 4000rpm now keep your foot just there! then slowly release the clutch to just before the car starts to move! when the light goes green you keep your accelerator foot still and move your clutch foot smoothly towards you.. when you start to gain momentum you put your accelerator foot down in one smooth motion not slamming it! then its a high rev pull away with no wheel spin! here is a example of my E36 M3 N/A racing our 258kw turbo BMW..

try launcing @3000rpm tc off(obviously), few can compete with a properly launched M.

Hehehehe. My dad does not race but he does go around in circles with it once in a while :clap:

So doubt he would be too concerned with a bit of launching once in a while by me!

What about the traction? Heard you can disable it "half" and fully by holding the traction control button down? Is this true?

No,

not for an E46, its either on, or its off.

With the E9X they have different stages of traction controll.

Why did they do that for the E46 M3 but for a normal E46 it has the 2 options?
