Lack Acceleration

Hi, I have an e36,320i auto, 92 Model? It has very poor accelaration from a stand still or in traffic? I am not sure if the gear box needs to be reconditioned, cos it does jerk when the car is on for a while and also over rerves from when changing from 2 to 3 gear. Any idea what can be done and at what cost?

I am trying to bring this car back upto an excellent condition:

1) Ball Joints
2) Airconditioning
3) Leather interior seat and door pads

Have gearbox checked for fluid level,filter etc.
Car should hit 59 km/h in 1st , 108 km/h in 2nd , 153km/h in 3rd , 216 km/h in 4th and 292km/h in 5th all at 6500 rpm. Tested in car book march 1995 top speed was 204 km/h in 4th at 6128 revs , will go to 5th if overrevving on downhill etc. 0-100 km/h in 12.24 seconds ( 325i man in 8.4 seconds ) so acceleration is not quick,but ok.

Any idea what the fuel consumption is on this car?

It may be a good idea to have the transmission filter replaced.I had nemurous customer's BMW's transmission that had shifting defects.The 320i is not really a performance junky in traffic.You'l rater enjoy highway driving and will enjoy the 6 torque on the open road, but still a good car.

is this a type o or is it true 292km/h

292km/h top end?... there is no way. thats a typo. 229 km/h is even a stretch. car will reach app 214km/h.
