Killarney Track Day

Hi,

I want to do my first track day Saturday on Killarney. Did 100's of laps around it with my bike but have never been around it in a car. What kind of tire wear can one expect? Any tips on what to take along and tire pressures on he 335i? Is anyone else going to the track day?

Thanks
Willem

What to take along:
Long pants, long sleeve top, closed shoes and a helmet.
And R400!

Was not aware that there was a track day either.

Tyres - We normally run the E36s at 1.8bar and tyre wear is not that severe :fencelook: unless you going to be drifting around all the corners :=):

No, 1.8 is too low if you are worried about wear. You need to run 2.5 bar plus. Wear is directly proportionate to how hard you accelerate, break and corner. It thus depends on yourelf.

2.5 BAR??? LOL, enjoying the sliding after lap 2 when your tyres are running at 3.2 BAR from heat. Turn 3 is especially fun sideways!! NAAAAT

I would invest in a spare set of wheels for the track with non-RFT's which have better grip than the RFT's. I would also say tyre pressures between 2.5 and 3 bar, maybe a bit higher in some cases. Ensure that you do a proper cool down lap for the engine and most crucially the brakes!!

Enjoy!!

Brake earlier and accelerate later. Its a trackday, not Formula 1. At 1.8bar you will stuff up a set of tires after a day on the track. Been there, done that.

I put mine at 2.4 all round. Worked well but my front tyres took abuse :) ya just take it easy into the corners and your breaks shouldn't be affected much. I'll see you there for sure.

Like I said .. on the E36s we run 1.8 bar. I have not had any issues with excessive tyre wear. I actually got over 45000kms on a set of Conti Sport Contact 3s which saw regular track days and I drove the car hard - braking as late as possible and accelerating early out of the corners.

My 2c based on my experience.

My advice would be just to get another set of wheels and tyres for the track days.

If in any doubt about tyre pressures, pop into any pit and speak to the guys who race and borrow a tyre pressure gauge from them and adjust your pressures - they are all really friendly and keen to assist.

I run 1.8 on my E46 and don't really see major wear on my tyres but I also tap off and break earlier to not over abuse my car, even though I have upgraded my breaks, as this car is my daily drive. Sorry but 2.5 is too hard, you'll have more wear from the back sliding and the front scrubbing from too much pressure. Also... just my opinion.

Yip. Same. 1.8-2bar seems to do the trick on my e36 as well. Hope to see you guys there. We might have a slippery one. In any event, with the recent rains, you might want to avoid those puddles that love to accumulate on the apexes of certain corners...fun!!
