Thanks guys, I phoned BMW and they want to charge R750 just to check the key and the car and will only then quote for repairs.

You can also get someone to phone BMW and get them to take the phone to the workshop and hold it up while they change the key or even do repairs.. then you just have someone hold your phone against your car and the key will be miraculously replaced or the car will be fixed.

I have a friend in Upington who cannot afford to drive into CT for repairs so he just phones the workshop and they do the repairs over the phone.. true story.. I tried this with a 325, a vokswagen beetle, a light bulb and my wife's C-section...

I think I'm going to try phone shopping next, just don't know if my handset will be able to transmit a watermelon...

BMW quoted me R1900 for a key if they can get the data from the old key, if not then it is a new lockset and keys which is about R14000.

Last year Club Motors in Randburg quoted me R1500 for a spare E46 key, you also have to send through ID and registration.

I'd be keen to try and code a E90 with the non metallic key, ayone got a spare key they would like added to the car ?

Or even a E46 spare key as long as you can get a locksmith to cut they key, I believe there are guys that does it, just donno where..

Try "The Gateway Locksmith" in Pta. Found them in the Yellow pages. R1000 for an E46 diamond key !

It was a complete lock set, but if you have ur key map, and I suggest you do it while you still have ur keys, then its cheaper.

the key is apparently 1900 from the dealer
there's a place in tokai that does it for 1000
they get an oem key from the dealer, cut it and code
