I also have the same problem, and asked Forsdicks the same question. I git the same answer.

So basically, either bite the bullet and spend the moola, or live with the current key. I'm gonna live with the current key.

My car's facotry fitted alarm system has been replaced by an aftermarket Sanji unit, thus I don't use the buttons on the key anymore.

I still need to find out if the car is still using the key-code, otherwise I am going to get myself two "normal" keys instead. They cost something like R300 or so each.

If it is the one in Pic 2, you can order the rubber inserts from a guy on the German and UK Ebay. I did this and my key looks perfect now!

Donovan...
If I understand you correctly, you are purchasing a blank key off EBAY and then going to have it cut to fit your car?

Basically R 140,00.

If so, will you order me one as well?
I can do a EFT into your account.

Guys...

You cannot remove the rubber buttons from the remote that easily. I managed to find and old spare key from a friends BMW, that he stuck in his safe when it was brand new. He gave me the key and I tried removing the rubber from it and eventually gave up as it was starting to damage the rubber. Instead I now just use that key as a spare remote...

If you want to replace the rubber...the easiest option would just be to buy a replacment rubber.
