My friend bought a black one some years ago and converted it, using a Japanese motor. (Nissan or Toyota I think)

A very eye catching car for its age. With great paintwork and a nice set of wheels, they really are something.

If you're going to change the motor, you will have a lovely toy to enjoy and admire! And, get attention! :=):

Great cars, on my classic must-have list behind the Citroen DS. I'd keep it original and bung an updated flat-four in there, or perhaps play it differently and go for a rotary setup.

My uncle had a custom green kharmann ghia with a vw beetle 1835cc motor and downdrafts and that use to pull nicely. Very beautiful cars these

If you convert it would you not have to keep it aircooled? I would not like to get a radiator in there...
