K&N Air filter on a diesel

My brother has a 328i e46 and he put the K&N cone filter in. It sounds great, pulls better for sure.

Would you get the same kind of effect for a 3.0d X5? Is it worth putting a K&N filter in to it?

Just the cone filter or the Cold Air Induction kit? With just the cone filter he could actualy get less performance from the car due to the heat from the engine.
Just remember that a diesel sounds very different from a petrol car.

I would love to hear the car with the filter on as i am thinking about doing it. Youtube doesn't have decent vids so if u wouldnt mind im sure there are lots of people that would love to hear it.

I would not do it, the diesel's MAF is very easily damaged. Apart from that you will not get any increase in performance, since the absolute manifold pressure is regulated by the ECU...

I will see what I can do. I think he has the whole system as it was the cone filter with heat shield and induction pipe.

it has that really deep growl to it and it truly is an awesome sound. I am not too sure if he will post or not, but if he does, i will pass it along.

Makes no odds on a deisel due to the turbo giving it all the air it needs.....

+1, i have read online on a few different forums that oil transfer from a k&n filter might damage your maf..

they have a specific range for diesel...dont buy just anyone.

A filter is made to do that - filter. That is the part "performance" filters skip out on. You might as well use your mother's pantyhose if you want "performance"

Or just do what the opel guys do, remove the filter and box completely, that give real performance, for a while at least.
