Saturday 30th July & Sunday 31st July: Streetcar Track Day & WPMC Club Drag racing

This coming weekend Killarney will be hosting a Streetcar Open Track day on Saturday afternoon from 2pm till 6pm. This event allows members of the public the opportunity to drive their road going cars around the 3,2km long main circuit. Drivers are separated into one of three groups depending on their driving experience while the Porsche club will have two 15 minute sessions before joining the rest of the normal groups later in the day. Racing cars are allowed however if piloted by a race driver they will be pushed into group 3, for the very experienced drivers. Please see more info below on the Killarney Streetcar Track Days.

Sunday sees the quarter mile professionals bring out their machines to see who will be quickest over the 400 meter strip. If the recent official practice session is anything to go by spectators should see several 10 second runs from the cars while many of the bikers achieved runs in the mid 9’s. The strip opens at 9am with runs scheduled to run till later in the afternoon. Some drifters have also made queries and could be ripping up the oval from late morning till about 2pm, we will see what happens here. Gates open at 8am and tickets are R30pp while under 12’s are free.

Race entries will be at the main gate caravan on Sunday morning from 8am till 10am. Racers are required to hold current MSA competition licences, the licence fee is R350 (excl club membership and medical cover if you go quicker than 13 seconds) and will be available at entries on the morning of the event.

Various foods and refreshments are available on the facility or spectators are welcome to bring their own, skottle braais are welcome or use one of the various braai stands available on site.

What do you fanatics reckon about tyre pressure for the track? What should I ride on?

If you going semi slicks you might want to go out on about 1.6 - 1.8 bar, and then have to play around with the tyre pressure till you get it right, right in the sense that when you come in after a couple of laps the tyres have inflated to its optimum working pressure. If you on road tyres you can just check what the pressures are and then get a feel for the car, then lower the pressure and check if it gets better or worse and then play around with it from there

under steer =no grip on front tires.see what 2bars does in the front then adjust from there

weather also plays a role.if the track is cold your grip is much less.

I run 2.4 all round on 225/45/17. Nitrogen filled street tires.

Front camber will decrease understeer. You will need to do shims like I did.
