Johannesburg to Kimberley N1 or N12?

Hi guys

Need some advice. I need to take a trip to Kimberley tomorrow for business.

Wanna drive down. Will also get a chance to stretch my BM's legs a bit. :joy:

With all the roadworks going on, just wondering if anyone has driven down from Jhb lately and which route was used. Want a good smooth trip.

Did the Durban to cape town via bloemfontein last week and there were about 5 stop and go areas max waiting time about 45 min.

If I remember correctly the N1 via kimberly is similar so no way to avoid it I'm afraid

I went to kimberley 3 weeks ago... No more stop and goes - take N12...

N12 for sure.. only stop and go is outside bloemhof, rest is good.. plus you do NOT want to drive the N8 between bloem and kimberley.. trust me.

ps. watch bloemhof, in fact all the small towns for speedtraps.. their local source of income..

N12 for sure - maybe one stop and go near Bloemhof.

The other way around is much worse...

So...went down using the N12.

What a nice drive. A bit bumpy in the beginning going to Kimberley, but not too bad. I left at 5am from JHB and arrived in Kimberley at around 10:30.

Will definitely recommend that road.

Cool Beans.

I go down once a month and thats the only way I go down. Coming back I have to go via bloem but I use the new Tollroad between Bloem and Welkom then the n1.

Hello All. Old conversation but anyone travel this trip recently to advise best route ? I know there was roadworks and stop and go not sure if still the case ?
