All symptoms of two things I found wrong on my car.

Crankshaft sensor and MAF sensor needs replacing.

Just thought I would post this as alot of people post threads with these symptoms.

Now if they would just use the forum search function...

Yes it does suffer more the hotter it is.

The details I got:

DME -> 53/B8 - Signal, crankshaft sensor
08/B2 - Signal, air-mass flow sensor

It seems the codes are expressed in DTC(hex)/PARAM(hex) format and not the conventional P-code

My 330i is horrible to drive in this hot weather and pinging like a mofo!! Today it is a fair bit cooler and while it is still a bit of a handful in terms of being jerky, the pinging is less.

Same here, especially between shifts and pulling from a hill.

As a side note I phoned around for prices on the abovementioned parts:

Crankshaft sensor:
G-drive R450.00
Goldwagen R975.00
BMW R1700.00

MAF Sensor:
Diesel Electric R1200.00
G-drive R1200.00
BMW (Didn't even bother, last time I heard it was something like R5000.00!!!)

If its for a 330i oem is Siemens. I've phoned diesel electric and they don't seem to stock them. Also look at partsonline.co.za. I'm also looking for a MAF. Incomex don't know when they'll get stock again and I'm worried about some of the brands out there. On the international sites quite a alot of guys had issues with the no name stuff.

The E90 MAF is VDO - will price it from those guys, there's also a local place that sells MAF and other sensors, they often advertise on Gumtree. Will have to search for them again...

Siemens is OEM. Think Diesel Electirc stock Bosch. Not sure about Goldwagen. G-drive told me their MAF sensor is OEM-like. Thus, its not Siemens or Bosch.

I have bought a pirated MAF sensor for R700 before. Lasted all of 4 months.

On BidorBuy there are Crankshaft sensors for R450. Not sure what brand otherwise I would have bought it long time ago.

@Loom. All sensors were OEM. Looking at replacing them now. Crankshaft and Camshaft sensors have never been replaced. MAF replaced twice before.

Have you tried Mr. Turbo, they brag that they have MAF sensors for almost any car?

Thanks! Can't seem to get onto their site for the moment, will try again - might be down temporarily...

Feel free to swing by and try some MAF cleaner if you want. Sometimes it's just dirty. Especially if you use an oiled filter.

Have cleaned the MAF a few times with LiquiMoly MAF cleaner - no difference. Plus, I am using an OEM non-oiled filter. I must just test a good MAF on my car to see if there is any difference...
