It rained today...

So Cape Town hasn't had a proper soak in ages and today the heavens opened up a bit and gave the roads a nice coating. With the roads having been dry for so long they have that layer of oil mixing in with the rain.

Today was the first time that I had driven my car in the rain and I gotta say, it was a whole new level of appreciation for what an awesome car it is! Diving into corners at speed and just feeling the car grip and take it like it was nothing. Gotta love that sports suspension and how the car lets you feel everything that's happening on the wheels. You feel so safe in the car and even at speed you have real confidence in the car as a whole!

She just earned some major bonus points today :)

Looking forward to winter

Just don't keep being reckless on the roads in the rain. Even in a fantastic BMW with all the bells & whistles shit can happen. Save the drifting for the track.

Also my first time on a wet road with the new tyres up front - very happy with the Hankooks so far in the wet too, although I didn't really push it, but can still feel that the grip is good!

Wasn't reckless at all and no drifting for me, was talking more about general handling and drivability of the car. A lot of cars suffer badly in the wet but my car felt planted and very in control.

A testament to the high quality engineering of these cars.

Nice to know that the Hankooks are doing well in the wet too! The main thing for me was moving from my old car with 195mm tyres to my current 225/245 setup, can feel all the grip, just not willing to test the limits of that grip :)

If you are taking corners at speed in the rain it is reckless and irresponsible. But that all depends what you define as a corner and at what sort of speeds.

But anyways, be safe.

All perspective and all of what I stated earlier was perfectly safe. I wouldn't do anything that endangers my life or the life of others around me, a person who doesn't consider these things is a clear example of an idiot.

It certainly did rain, and I felt a bit twitchy in the M5. Will have to change my "driving brain" to winter mode:thinking:

And hope everyone else does the same

I like driving in the rain but not when there are other cars around. You need to be so alert when the roads are busy.

Too true, there are some real idiots out there and, when it rains, they become more idiotic!

Glad to hear that it makes you fel more safe, i have definitely felt a huge difference in the 3 with M-Tech compared to my other cars with front wheel drive and also compared to alot of other cars i drove before.

Took the 328i for a "spin" yesterday in the industrial area in killarney gardens.

FUN in the wet. But That LSD needs to be fitted next week. :)

Dont like having "fun" on the road, rather where no one else can get involved. :)

Tyres make a HUGE difference!
Yesterday after class at around 20h00 i drove back to Malmesbury, and it was coming down real hard!
I bought my car with Dunlops(worst tyre ever! Will never fit it) and replaced them with Firehawks
They were excellent in the rain!

Its like when it rains, people forget that they are driving... they see the drops & become completely stupid

It was a year ago that I put my hearse into the back of another bakkie. First rains in WP and the ABS pulses began immediately as I hit brakes. In the dry I would have stopped in a third of the distance. Be carefull.

I've heard of quite a few old E36 M3's back in the day that were "taken" off the road by standing water due to their wide boots! Narrow/wides are great in the dry, but when it is coming down you actually better off with deep tread narrow wheelbarrow wheels!!
