Wow I have been off this forum for some time:ROFLMAO:! Wife forced the purchase of a Renault Kwid and the sale of my old e46 320i(n).
Long story short, I wrote off the kwid and told the wife i refuse to purchase another small car. So on the look out for my next BMW and have my eyes on the E90 320D. Looking for anybody that knows of a good one for sale for 80-100k, based in Durban but willing to fly to collect the car if its worth it! Anybody with a hidden gem;)

Looking forward to some mods and seeing what I can do with it. I have my own high end 3D printers and in the process of building a CNC and will be looking for what parts and mods will benefit the community that I can make.

Any specific car? Exclusive or M Sports? Auto or manual? Sunroof or xenons deal breakers? Mileage limit?
Not fussy, except that it must be the auto. They are a bit more reliable than manual. Needs to also be decently looked after and reliable.

I have a lead on a car in CPT that a mate of mine is going to have a look at. Its a base model but its very well maintained and currently at 150k on the clock. Its not pristine, but Its going for a good price.

Just curious on how the auto is more reliable than the manual?

Theres a couple 330D for sale at the moment but unfortunately not within budget haha. I have a friend in CPT going to have a look today at the 320D going for 80k with 150k on the clock and full service history. Car looks very clean inside and out so its a possible winner

What should I expect with the auto and what should I look out for?
Expect a rebuild/refresh if the box is slipping and clutches are worn, you will feel this if driving in varied conditions. This is anywhere between R35k or higher, depending on where it goes.

No old BMW is going to be cheap to maintain or run, you must make peace with that. It all adds up and very quickly, you could be at the purchase price of the car on a few big ticket items.

Ahh ok so just general wear and tear. I'm not worried about maintenance, I'll be doing it all myself(at least I know it will be done proper with good quality stuff). I just need a car that's not going to have a bunch of things going wrong constantly(as if we can prevent that🤣🤣) and is comfortable and reliable.

I know the risks and how quickly costs can accumulate, but you have that with any car. I wrote off my Kwid 2 weeks ago, and I'm 100% convinced the accident only happened because it is a small car with small tires. We weren't going fast, about 80, and I wasn't following too close, but it was raining and the guys infront of me weren't paying attention and someone hit the person infront of them which caused a cascade of 3 cars slamming brakes. I hit brakes and all 4 locked up instantly and slid straight into the guy infront of me. Slid for a good 3-4seconds before impact but turned the car slightly sideways to hit passenger front corner first. Told my wife I refuse to buy a small car again and I love BMW. So it's time to get another one.

I think the accident was related to your reaction time if I'm honest. What you describe isn't what I see in the vid. Theres even a guy who pulls out of that lane and the cars are stationary for some time also before you hit. Ultimately I guess it doesn't matter if insurance has paid out. If not, delete this vid IMHO.

Anyway, I am more saying just don't be that quick to blame the small car or tyres. While the kwid is indeed a shitbox, I doubt if even my F90 could stop if I applied brakes at the same time you started to. You can see it in the time stamps and GPS speeds on your vid.

At the 2s mark you could see brakes coming on in front of you and ahead of this you could see the mass of cars there. You seem to start to brake 2-3s later since you're still doing 80km/h at the 5S mark (even going up).

You'd have had plenty of time to stop from 80km/h if you reacted in 1s.

Anyway you're forgiven. The Kwid was probably an order of magnitude faster than the E90 320i so may have been a handful to manage :ROFLMAO: j/k

Obligatory comment to say that the E90 is now an objectively old car and finding an inexpensive one just means more bills or headaches later. I'd try to improve the budget or age range of cars you're looking at at least.

That said, if a 35k+ bill doesn't bother you and you're dead set in a 20 year old diesel car, then you should be fine I guess.

That price sounds too good to be true.
Please do your research on it before buying it.

That sounds like the Joburg special cbd cars that are rebuilds with 100 000km taken off.

If it is legit mileage and it can be proven then that is an absolute bargain, and you will resell the car for a profit easily

You need your head checked if you think a 20+ year old rep/commuter car has only done 150000km.

I can barely believe 100000km M/AMG Cars

If it is legit mileage, it will 100% be asking a premium as we have seen for 320ds and 330ds for years now.

So km was legit, I had it checked out. The car is very well looked after. The interior is very good and clean. A few electrical gremlins which they didnt originally disclose, It has a voltage error which could either be alternator or something else. The main turn away for me was that it looks like it had hit something on the front left, either a curb or possibly pothole or something, so the control arms etc were replaced only on that side and the protective cover was damaged underneath on that side, and then it looks like they attempted to have the car sprayed, doesnt look like a complete respray, but at least a full clear coat, but it was done horribly with patches, orange peel and runs all over the car
