Is this normal????

If i get in the car and put the key fob into the dash, then foot on brake, then push start button then the car starts right? Correct

Now then, if i press engine stop button (and the engine switches off) and remove the key fob from the dash (so no key in the dash/ignition at all, completely removed), then i press the start button, the car still starts :shocked:

Can anyone tell me why?
And is there some kind of weird reasoning behind it?

perhaps u have comfort access boet and u dont know it?

try putting your hand on the door handle wit the key in your pocket when u outside the car
a and see if it opens

Thing is though, its not just mine that does it, a friend of mine actually brought it to my attention cos his 320i also does it

think its meant to be able to..

If you get in car, put key in start car, stop engine, take key out then it starts with no key but open a door then it wont start with no key

so always start your car like than, then keep key in pocket, then if you getr Hi Jacked, they can take car but wont be able to start it after they turn it off.. unless they hot wire it

that is a neat feature for anti hijack! start the car with the key in your pocket if they take your car they will get as far as the first stop they make! i didnt know our model cars did that! but i tried on my E91 320d 2008 and nothing! no key no start!

did you make sure all doors stayed closed during the process?

get in car, close doors, lock doors

put key in, start car, turn off car, take key out, start car immediately after without opening any doors..

think it was BMW faults or something like that.

Well what do you know. It started.

Only thing is, once you shut down completely, you have to slot the key in, and release, in order to completely switch off, otherwise the radio and some of the lights on the dash stays on.

Do they not turn off when you get out & lock the car?

My dads car does not have comfort access. This I know for a fact, cause I specced the car.

@Andrew. I didn't try to lock it, I just inserted the key again, and used the normal shut down process. Maybe worth a shot. I will try it again when I get to the car again.

I see in the write ups that it seems to be a kind of anti-hijack system
