Its the bearings in the steering column bud. Get a can of good penetrating spray lube, pop the bonnet and give the bearings on the steering shaft a good spray or you can get those bearings replaced.

I had the same issue and just sprayed mine. Its been a few months now with no issues.

+1

theres two 'couplings' that hold the bearing in place on the shaft, these rub together n make a noise. Get in there with some q20

And are you guys talking abt these two 'couplings'?

part 3 and 5

you should be able to get to it by just removing the plastic cover over the column. If the sound is still there after you lube then its coming from lower down the column. I wud use bearing grease though it may last longer.

Part number 2 is most probably your culprit, common failure point on the steering column as the plastic degrades over the years and begins to fail.

If its your slip ring then take the steering wheel off and move the slip ring by hand to see if its the culprit.

I sprayed number 2 and 7. After sprayed well (Half the can lol) take it for a short drive and after a while i promise you it will be silky smooth with zero squeal. At first just after spraying i turned the steering from side to side in my garage and thought it didnt work :argh: then went to the shop to get a few things and  good as new.

At 1st I also suspected the slip ring, as the noise sounded like it was coming from directly behind the steering wheel, changed the slip ring and the problem persisted.
