iPhone via USB

Hi,

I recently purchased a 2013 BMW X3 but cannot get it to connect to the iPhone via USB. It charges and picks up an "Apple Device" but says that I should try a to a BMW approved cable. I am, however, using an original iPhone cable and the BMW cable is R1000+ and not guaranteed to work.

Any ideas as to how else I can stream music from my iPhone? Both the car and the iPhone have the latest software.

Can't find a way to do it via Bluetooth either.

Thanks,
Viven

There should be an auxiliary input that connects through your headphone jack. However you're going to have to control the music through the phone which is pretty simple with an iPhone. When playing music on a locked Iphone you just click the power button and you have the music controls displayed on screen where the time would usually be.

Thanks. Yes, the aux does work but was hoping to be able to control it from the steering wheel.

you would need a Y-Cable that would give you full functionality

Excuse the ignorance but what is a y-cable? Is it the one that splits the USB input from 1 into 2?

Is there a particular y-cable that I need?

How do you stream via Bluetooth? It only picks up the iPhone as a telephone only

As far as I've tried, I cannot use the steering controls whilst streaming over bluetooth.

There are two different types of Bluetooth systems installed on BMW's. Std one is just phone and the other optional system includes Bluetooth music play back that works with steering controls.

Okay cool, but the difference between these 2, is it just software or hardware as well?

In my car there is a slot inside the centre console for a snap in adapter so yes there is a hardware difference, but that doesn't really affect the music playback so maybe you can recode and it will work, someone with more knowledge will have to answer that though.

Okay cool, i have the same slot for the snap on adapter as well. I must check what needs to be done. I need to go see Yusuf for coding so will check with him also.

Then Bluetooth playback and steering controls should work without issues. The std system does not have the slot afaik.
