So after my meetings today I decided to not sit in traffic and rather came home to work on some overdue projects.
1) Route car sim hardware to centre console armrest storage
2) Route iPhone cable to centre console armrest storage
3) Clean a-pillar covers and re-set them to stop rattles.
4) Sort out creaking overhead plastic panels (sunroof controls, rear reading lights, etc)
----
1) Well first I had to basically disassemble the middle interior section of the car. Started by taking off the centre console armrest storage. After that I removed the console wood trim, ask unit, storage trays and cage. Then I could remove the transmission tunnel trim. Once it was all off I routed the flex cable for the phone along the transmission tunnel and to the centre console armrest storage. I used my Dremel tool to cut neat, almost invisible slots for the cables. And two holes to secure the sim hardware with a cable tie.
2) Again using the Dremel I made a slot in the bottom of the ashtray to feed the iPhone cable through. The cable went along the same path as the phone hardware flex.
Once all the cables were in place I reassembled everything. Now the car's sim hardware is easy to get to, the cubbyhole is less cluttered and the iPhone cable hidden.
3) The A-pillars use some POS push-pin clips that dislodge from the trim and then fall into the firewall of the car. I managed to save them today, and re-set the trim panel. Now the annoying dry rattle is gone, and in the process I cleaned the panels too
4) I am pretty sure every car has annoying creaking panels. In the 7er these are the plastic overhead panels. It's as though the plastic clips that secure then to the headlining frame are aging and creaking as they get older. My solution: I wrapped the hooked tabs in rubber tape and reinstalled the panels. They fit more snugly than before and also...the creaking is all gone
And incase y'all are wondering...that is a bag of french vanilla coffee beans. They make the car smell nice
To give you an idea of what the console disassembly involves check out this video. I did not remove my seats BTW: LINK
