Hello All

I've been a member of the forum for a while already (since 17-05-2014 according to my profile!), with the intention of owning an M3 at some stage in my life. So I've never made a formal intro, but I have enjoyed reading member contributions from the marketplace to technical issues, advice, showroom and more, as a way of indulging my dream. The other reason I joined the forum was to make sure I was aware of what I may/may not be getting myself into when buying a M3. To that end, there is a wealth of real-world info on this and other forums, which is really helpful for anyone who likes to 'look before they jump'.

I had always planned on a E46 M3 but as the years rolled on the prices of low-ish mileage examples goes up, and they're harder to find, the opposite kind of happened with the E92s. So in December I finally took the plunge and now have a 2010 BMW M3 Coupe M-DCT (Alpine White) in my garage. The car has 87 000kms on the clock and is standard, apart from a OEM rear spoiler and gloss black front grille. I'd not planned to buy a DCT, but having read so many opinions on the M/T vs. DCT I took the decision to go with DCT for a few practical reasons, but also because there are more DCTs in the market choose from and finding an M/T with the other boxes I wanted ticked was not as easy.

I plan to add a few OEM+ updates in due course (359M wheels and front splitters), but no performance mods planned. If I did decide to do any mechanical mods in future, it would be to improve the front brakes to rule out the chance of fade running up/down mountain passes or for a track day session if I ever decided to do that. The only other hardware change would be to release a little more sound from the exhaust back-box, since it's quite subdued as standard. Oh, and to change the DRLs from the 'yellow' to a more modern white. (If anyone can recommend a quality plug 'n play kit/bulb that won't produce an error code, run hot, or any other potential issues, then let me know.)

I bought the car in early Dec and haven't had many chances to get out for a 'proper drive', so still learning the ropes in terms of the handling, power, DCT, etc, but to be honest even just seeing the thing parked in my garage makes me smile at this stage.

Anyway, since I'm now a BMW car owner (have had bikes before), I might have a few posts of my own in due course (hopefully not due to problems!).

Thanks and yup, I had the rod bearings done within days of getting the car (the old bearings didn't look bad). Replaced the engine mounts at the same time (which I was quite surprised made an obvious  difference to 'smoothness'), no issues noted with the steering rack or anything else upfront, nor anywhere else after a full going over. It has FSH and no comments with BMW, so I plan to look after it and hopefully it'll return the favour. Throttle actuators I'll sort out when they eventually fail or if there are any warning signs, because I understand they're more of a major inconvenience rather than a real danger to the engine when they fail.

Re. photos, it's rare that I take photos, especially when out for a drive, but did take two 'for the record' on my first proper time out in the car...
