very interesting, wondering about its application in aviation ie is it approved

Allthough ideal, ICAO or CAA would need to approve it for aviation and it's not approved by them at the moment. Reason being the SABS approval is due towards the end of July 2011. The product has passed it's SABS testing Dec. 2010.
Having said that, the product is excellent for use in aviation because it leaves no residue, thus saving you thousands of Rands in replacing/repairing avionics destroyed by corrosive foam/powder. The firestryker works with Potassium Nitrate which essentially eats the oxygen around the fire and hence smothering it. Also, the unit is not pressurised therefore no risk of explossion and it's non-toxic, so no harmful gas emisions.
It was developed by Russians for their cosmonauts for these reasons.

Hope this answers your question.

thanks for the reply, will watch this closely, as to getting SACAA approval, its weight saving alone is a plus point.

Wow, first time I see this, fantastic product! And really a lot more practical than the usual and bulky type of fire extinguishers we are use to! Will have to get a few of these at some point!

BENEFITS OF FIRESTRYKER

1. It is lightweight and compact
230g/275g/550g vs. 9kg fire-extinguisher which actually weighs 13.1kg when
filled.
2. It can be used on Class A,B,C,F fires
You don’t need 4 different types of extinguishers anymore.
3. Unlimited Shelf life
No refilling, No servicing and No re-pressurisation required.
Also a cost and time saver wrt the above.
4. Longer emission time
It comes in 25s, 50s and 100s sizes thus improving fire-fighting capability.
A 9kg fire extinguisher takes 34s to empty.
5. It leaves no residue
The emission is so to speak a form of gas and therefore no clean up is required
afterwards.
6. It’s Non-Toxic, Non-Corrosive and Environment Friendly
The composition is Potassium Nitrate Aerosol, which means that even after
spraying it over your food you can still eat the food.
7. It comes with a 5 year Warranty

WHY NOT JUST BUY A CHEAP CONVENTIONAL FIRE EXTINGUISHER?

1. If you buy a cheap conventional fire extinguisher you have annual costs of replacing, refilling, re-pressurising and servicing it. Not even to mention the time involved. Firestryker you have to buy once and only have to think about it again in the event of a fire.
2. According to law fire extinguishers have to be serviced annually. If your insurance required you to have a fire extinguisher for any reason and in the event of a fire they weren’t serviced you could forfeit your cover.
3. In the near future, legislation regarding motor vehicles is going to change requiring every vehicle to carry a fire extinguisher. Firestryker fits neatly in your glove-box or side of your door or alternatively, it come with a mounting bracket for your fitment requirement.

Fire Stryker is now MSA Approved!!!!
