So i go to JSN BMW to get me a litre of Castrol SLX, the salesman tells me that all BMW dealerships have changed from Castrol SLX 5w30 to Castrol Magnatec 5w30. I didnt have time to ask the salemans why as i went through on my lunch break. But i did ask if it would be compatible with the SLX and he said it would be fine it still the 5w30 grade

But i was wondering has BWM acknowlegde the high oil consumption and changed over to using the Magnatec version?

I don't like mixing and matching different oils even if they are the same grade. Had to get a 1 ltr oil top-up for my 330i last year and the agents supplied me with Engen Syntium and not Castrol SLX... Be keen to know what the story is with this change of oil type.

Did your car have any negative side affects?

I went to auric auto in claremont to get some and they too have changed to petronas synthetic. I'll have to stop off at midas or goldwagen to get the slx

Try keep to the oil in the motor for fill ups .different brands by the same company have different characteristics e.g. anti wear , cleaning , additive package .
Synthetic technology makes oils tailor made for certain applications , how often do BMW update specs e.g. where a Petronas oil is allowed ?

Just changed oil and filters for my Wife's car and filled with SLX, so still interested to know why they have changed brands etc. Although as I said above, already last year when I went to Forsdicks BMW Tygervalley to get a litre to top up my E90 they sold me Engen and not Castrol...
