Hi members

I'm interested in purchasing a 2008 low mileage E93 335i , any advice or what to look out for ?
Find out if the following items were changed and when during its lifetime were they done.

Turbos
Waterpump
Injectors (what's the revisions of each one of them currently in)
Coilpacks
High pressure fuel pump

When purchasing and N54, I would say one must have 20 to 30k of capital on hand to be used in case its required to get certain items sorted. Once the above items are attended to, you will have a much better experience. You will also definitely want to a carbon clean which is roughly 3k

Other items which are wear and tear that one should look out for on Any old car and also check if they were done

Engine mounts
All belts and Pulleys
Control arms, stabilizer links etc
Shocks
Wiper blades

Hope this helps

Just maintain the hell out of that car and it will treat you well. Go check out my thread in my signature and you will see what I go through to keep my car in tip top condition.

I will give some tips on how to maintain the car when you find one:

Firstly Don't use rubbish knock off parts, Go to BMW and get OEM part replacements, unless it's a performance part that is built of better quality like a charge pipe etc.
But things like coolant expansion tanks and belts, belt pulleys, Gaskets, O-rings and all that kinda thing...Use OEM quality stuff not goldwagon knockoff piet pompi kak from china cause it costs R150 instead of R800. There is a reason it's R150! There are certain things I sometimes get from Goldwagon depending on the brand, like cabin filters, oil filters and oil and sometimes brake pads otherwise everything else I get oem from BMW.

Do oil changes regularly, not every 20k km! These are performance engines and chances are its been modded and if not you're going to mod it, so change the oil very regularly. 3000 - 5000km is what I personally do. Also Remember these motors are old now, some all the way back from 2006!

Oil - this is a very controversial topic and everyone will have their own opinion so I will give mine, Don't use "BMW recommended 5w30" we don't live in Europe! we live in SA where our climate is much warmer, Our motors get very hot fast and a 5w30 thins out too quickly, Thus doesn't offer the best protection so I would recommend 5w40 Motul(My personal favorite) or shell helix Ultra or Liqui-Moly(also a lot of other peoples favorites).

Onto the modding side of things for the longevity of your motor! I am not talking about making power, Just stuff that will keep the motor happy for many years or km or both! Log your car before and after doing these mods and you will see the difference they make in stock form or tuned.

These motors don't like our rubbish SA low octane fuel, You can see it in any N54 logs, stock logs even! timing corrections like its going out of fashion. This is due to our very warm climate mixed with our bad quality low octane fuel compared to the rest of the planet. So the mods I would highly recommend for the longevity of your motor if and when you mod would be:

7 - 7.5" intercooler ( this will make a massive difference from the stock cooler and helps tremendously with intake temps thus timing corrections due to knock etc) Don't bother with a 5" I had this and the temp difference from stock is minimal so in my opinion it's a waste of money, don't be penny wise, pound stupid, do it right the first time round.

This next one is also going to maybe have allot of raised eyebrows but myself and @General.Massacre do allot of research on these cars and spend allot of time logging with years of research and development now with regards to what mods do what and what setups work best and give the cleanest logs and yield the most reliable power. We both daily our cars and like our cars to be as reliable as possible. So my next highly recommended mod is: Methanol - Direct port injection methanol (Do this after getting a carbon clean of your valves and this will keep them clean till the end of time and also will give you perfectly clean timing always not to mention very nice cold intake temps when flooring the car on a hot day!) - You don't need to tune for methanol. I run it as a safety net for my motor. Your engine will thank you. Don't waste your money going charge pipe only meth. Yes it does the job but it does it very badly (It's not all about Intake air temps "IAT's") , If you monitor your logs under high boost you will see that cylinder 1, 5 and 6 are usually being starved of methanol and eventually this can damage the motor. You want nice even distribution! I run Charge pipe and port injection methanol and my timing is flatlined always. I run two small very fine mist nozzles in my charge pipe very low down to help atomize the methanol as much as possible to help with IAT's and then the Port methanol is purely for octane, keeping the valves clean and of course keeping actual cylinder temps down.

Charge pipe - Aluminum (The stock charge pipe even with a stock N54 will eventually break its the weakest link in the engine bay on an N54. (probably made in china!).

A set of Delphi Coils or you can go the very expensive route like @FiRi@Rennzport and get the precision raceworks coil packs but that is only really if you're chasing big power. But they are also a great option if you don't mind spending 10 - 12k on a set of coils as they will last you many years. The oem Bosch ones are absolute rubbish. You will be chasing misfires forever, you will hate the car and hate life! 🤣

Anyways that's my small list of stuff I highly recommend to keep the car tip top.
Make sure the car has Revision 12 injectors. Also buy a set of new seals and compression fittings for the injectors and change them, the amount of gremlins I had with my car for years before changing those was phenomenal. "You can read about this in my thread too!"

Basically just refer to my thread for any issues you have with N54 🤣 I have pretty much dealt with everything and documented it pretty well.

Wow thank you so much, this info is immense much appreciated man, yeah look the cars in good nick mileage is low (87k, 08model, stock) initially i won't tune initially but will look into it.
