Intake Hole

In the picture posted above, the highlighted part (bottom right of picture) has a hole in it.. about 2 fingers size. The car idles absolutely perfectly. I'm guessing it's something to do with the air intake. I'm terribly sorry, I'm no mechanic. What is the suggested way of replacing that? what do I replace it with? how urgent is it? I cant really notice anything in the driving, other than a major power drop when the engine is hot, which could be caused from this, as to my understanding.

please advise

wont adversely affect your motor in any way other than power loss and increased consumption.
The additional hot hair into the intake will decrease performance but wont damage the motor in any way.
Best you get it sorted just so you know its done and your car can breathe cool air again.

Judging by the image, I would assume the car is "OUT" of motorplan

check-out the part required from "real OEM"
Go to any parts dealer, Goldwagen/Midas/Autozone etc and buy an aftermarket one.
Looks the hole is before the airfilter and MAF sensor, so apart from taking in warmer air from within the engine bay rather than ambient air from infront of the vehicle, should have negligible issues on driving except as the post above, slight increase in consumption.

That should just pull off and fit back on. Have a feel around both sides of it and see if there are any clips or brackets.
I would go to a dealer or check on RealOEM.com for a part number and like Ralf says, check your aftermarket suppliers. BMW will charge around R500+ for that I would assume.

This is the section of my car on RealOEM, I see the part in question doesn't have a number ?:yuck:

I think it's part no 12 , suction tube :fencelook:

it is indeed, there's a line missing pointing down to it

+1, quick search of the part number yielded this -> http://www.partsvp.com/products/SUCTION-TUBE:13709971-(BMW-%2d-13%2d71%2d1%2d438%2d768).html

nvm. You posted before me

That was genuinely amazing hahah :praise:
Thank you so much for the help all. Going to duct tape straight away and
replace ASAP, don't feel like it causing any other problems, as low as the chance is.

Found one on EBAY for around R360 including shipping :)
Local shops crapped themselves when I asked for it. Will have to go with EBAY. Thanks for all the help everyone

Bought one last year for R350 at the Dealers. Used insulation tape to cover the hole while waiting for the part.
