Insurance repair query

Hi Guys,

I've had a nasty crash last week... but thankfully not too bad and the insurance is paying to fix it at a BMW approved panelbeater.

The front bumper definitely needs to be replaced but I would like to replace it with the m-sport variant as I had the exclusive one on.

Does anyone know if this is possible... from BMW's side will they be OK ? Insurance company ?

Not sure about cars but back in they day insurance used the term 'betterment' and charged the client for any upgrades or repairs that were done that wasn't caused by the accident. Anyways that was HGV'S so I honestly don't know what happens in the case of a car but your best bet is to chat to your insurance company.

Chat to the dealership. They will prob help out. But take my advice stay away from alberante.

negotiate with the dealer to make a differential payment in cash between that covered by insurance and your desired replacement

That's what I was thinking. Makes sense as the insurance pays the dealer, so if I want something better then I settle with the dealer.

They need to attach an original invoice, with fitted part, so the dealership will have to invoice the original, credit it, and re-invoice the sportpack part,

What you can do, is ask the assessor about it, and ask them to charge you what is called a "betterment" wherby you basically pay the difference.

If the assessor signs it off, your good. But none of the big 5 (Santam Zurich, Hollard, Regent MF) will do that...

There's another way (at least with my insurance). You submit three quotes, and nominate the service provide which you wish to use. As long as it's not the one with the highest quite the insurance should approve it, and basically make it your problem from there on I.e. You use that provider at your risk and responsibility and have no recourse against the insurer should you not be happy with the work (as opposed to if using one of their recommended providers). Then they will pay you out the sum minus any applicable excesses, and you can do as you please with that.

Agree on not using Alberante ARC, I have used them twice and both times was left unsatisfied, had to kick up a shit storm with all the big wigs there for them to correct their mistakes and fix all the shit they broke in the process.

You can get a cash settlement, and your insurance company will like that, outsourance is famous for it, because it mitigates their risk.

SO you get paid out cash, and the claim is closed, however, if you do disconver "unseen damage" after they strip, they give you the middle finger..

Yes. I've had this experience before. I just told my insurance to send it to their preferred BMW repair centre. In this case Auto Alpina Springs.

Has anyone had any experience with them ?
