Insurance Advice

I'd recommend going through a broker. They get paid by the insurance companies and give very good advice and do a lot of the leg work for you. Also, you don't have to wait for new month to switch insurance or make any policy changes/updates. Through my broker I'm changing from auto & general in a few days to frontline. Insurance companies charge pro rata and can even refund you, as I've changed companies mid month more than once due to circumstance change.

No matter who you go with, make certain what exactly you are covered for and how much you can claim. If you assume something is covered, it probably isn't. There are many small details that can easily be overlooked even if an item is specified as being covered on your policy, it might only be claimed in certain situations.

Im with santam. I pay R735 for the beemer, citi life and bike. But brokers generally get you the best deal. Everyone will tell you different horror stories from all the different insurance companies. I have had bad service myself from standard bank. I think all of the big guys are on par (Santam, mutual federal, alex forbes....).

WARNING: STAY AWAY FROM OUTSURANCE

I have hear more horror stories from them than any other insurance company.

They even provided false evidence to try and prove a buddy of mine was drinking and driving. Luckily he was smarter than them.

Another Question regarding Car insurance is business use VS personal use?

I use my car to go consult at clients, now to I classify this as personal use or business use??

Found out more about this with insurance as I also drive to clients from home, insurance considers this 'professional use' at least that's what standard bank insurance calls it.

I use my bakkie during the week and it has company logos on it, I was with Miway and was insured as private use. They wouldn't have paid out at all if had to meet with an accident.

Switched over to standard bank insurance as of this month since we have all our corporate accounts with them, personal and professional use of bakkie only R608 a month! This is the best premium I have received after a year of hunting and includes me being 22 and listed as a driver. With everyone else, at the mention of business the premium would exceed 1k a month. I want insurance not a new freaken installment.

Question is how do get hold of a reputable broker.
I once had insurance with Primemeridian although the premiums were cheap I had allot of uncertainties when reading the T&C. For instances if the vehicle was involved in an accident and repairing the damage costs more than R55k then the car will be written off but if it is less then you would have to pay to fix your car because there was no excess.
After a couple of months I cancelled and moved back to Miway

@Lindo. Dude, get away from direct insurers like Miway, Outsurance, Budget etc.
Go with a broker and you will have no worries.
Santam brokers like First Link, Ingwe Risk and AON to name a few are exceptionally good regarding service etc. Dealt with some of them.
Also Iemas is a broker for Mutual & Federal with the most competitive quotes. I claimed 60k of household contents last week since we were burgled 2 weeks ago. No hassle and fuss, cash being paid on full claim today or tomorrow.
Shop around buddy.

Iemas  didnt have any issues

MiWay beat them though...they called promising to beat my premium at 1300 for the two cars...she said eish when qouting me 1800..
2 days later a senior advisor called...and now I am paying 1k for both cars. :joy: still comprehensive cover with roadside assistance
