A club member has done a DIY in his.

I don't know his forum nickname, but have sent him a whatsapp to come reply here.

..........
It will be the same as my setup. Very easy.
Installed a Rockford Processor, RF amp, RF sub and RF cap.
All that you need to do is splice the fibre cable that goes into the factory amp and connect the processor to it, then from the processor to the new amp, etc.
I will take pics this evening of my setup

Its no more complicated then putting it in a golf, its actually easier as the power distribution is already in the back.

the only thing that you have to do is use a high quality hi/lo converter that you tap in under the sub which is located in the floor under one of the seats, or if your more daring, and you have the top hifi, you can tap it from the LHS of the boot.

But the Hi input that goes to the sub on the floor starts at the ASK or head unit, and its too much to go to the front.

Battery off so you don't get airbag lights

4 big torx screws, seat out, tap into wire, run wire to the back, put in hi/lo and you have RCA input, and then its straight forward.

I have done mine DIY.

I didn't use any processor in my install.

I tapped straight into the i/p of the amp in the boot. I have the HK setup so it was not to hard to do.
I used a Hi/Lo converter with a remote o/p so I have no wiring at all running to the front of the car.

I took some pics and i will try upload them from here at work.

I did a lot of reading on different forums and found pretty much everything I needed to know to do the wiring in of the install. I however opted for the 10" limpid pair from pioneer on a custom board I fabricated.

Also if u do the wiring right, the dealer will never see the loom except for all the equipment of course.

Where are u based?

Good luck boet!!

Do you have the HK sound? If you do, you'll see the factory amp on the left side of the boot.

What components are you installing besides the amp and sub?

I'm coming up to Jhb next weekend (7-9 Nov) if you want me to show you?

Bud I dont mean to be funny , but you have a R350 000.00 car with a motor plan and you want to save R1200.00 for a DIY ?

Every think maybe an installer would know which wire is the fibre optic cable and not the speaker cables and wont destroy the wiring in the car for the cost of R1200.00

Thats 2 tanks of fuel maybe a bit less then 2 tanks.:roflol:

its more like a R500k car bud.

Ive spent all my money on other goodies :tiptoe:

i dont mind paying the R1200 thats not the point. The point is if i can save money by doing it myself why not?

its like me paying someone to open a beer for me lol

I am gonna have to agree with Shaheen on this. When i was considering my upgrade on my E60, after reading lots and watching plenty of DIY's it didnt seem that complicated, but the risk of something going wrong out weighed the cost i would have saved by doing a DIY.

It meant i had to choose a cheaper amp and re-use an old sub i had but i dont regret it.
