Hi I have a 2000 model bmw E46 6I 320i. Whenever the engine is cold and I start it goes fine and even when the temperature rises it stil goes fine but as soon as the engine is hot and I turn it off and try to start it again then it whill strugle to start and then when it does its got no power. I have to rev it to about 3k revs otherwise it stalls. and then as soon as I press clutch and the revs go down the car stalls. Also the orange oil light comes on whenever I start and then dissapears after 30 sec but I don't know if this is related to the fact that the engine loses power when started hot. Any info will be much appreciated.

If I am not mistaken the orange oil light going on for a couple of seconds after the car is started means the oil level sensor needs to be replaced.

In terms of the loss of power and the stalling, I would guess cam position sensor or possibly the mass airflow sensor, but it would be set to have the codes read it should give the best idea of what is wrong.

Thanx will have it checked out. I have also read that it could possibly be the VANOS seals that needs to be replaced. I don't know why it only happens when the engine is hot. could be that the oil becomes thinner and then the seals on the VANOS does not do any sealing and the oil preasure drops.

Yup vanos seals is also something too look at, contact freerider (admin on this forum) he might be able to help you out with vanos parts. Check here for more info.
Would still be a good idea to have the codes read to give an idea if something else is also wrong.
