Induction kit?

Hey Guys,
so i was wondering if it is a good idea (or for lack of knowledge or my idiocy) possible to install a induction kit in my e46 328i. The baseline knowledge i have is that the more (cold) air you get into the engine the more power you get. I heard various remarks from its a neccesity to it actually lowers power. Can you guys please help me out. I only have a K&N panel air filter installed as well as a free flow exhaust system.

Hi Mate. I would keep as is. Don't go anywhere near a cone Filter such as Symota crap you buy from autostyle. pretty confident you will loose power.

When I had my cooper S I put a free flow, John cooper cold air induction as well as larger injectors.

Principal being, more air (and colder) + more fuel and gas exiting the motor quicker equals more power. Car was supercharged so not sure if N/A makes any difference.

I would rather look at software. I'm sure the other guys on here will be able to sort you out. Just my opinion.

Cheers

I would go with a decent set of branches, Free Flow exhaust & keep the K&n drop in filter. Just keep it clean

When I had my E46 330i many moons ago :) , i had wildcat exhaust, dastek unichip and BMC panel filter and enjoyed every minute of it :)
I actually miss that car :(

I found a contraption that has a double sided fan its made out of alli now you take this put in where the introduction pipe ends put the oneside in and clamp it in then at the end of the front side you put a K/N filter now when you excellerate it sucks more air in cause of it being a fan try it it has much more power.

Bud thats actualy just speeds up air speed, and if it does work like said your car will run lean and brake! It will actualy restrict your air if its in the pipe line!
Is it this thing you on about? soz for flaming but dyno tested and Vbox proven not to work! Just sounds faster..

someone told me to get an air box and attachments from a 325i for my 323i because it would improve performance is it worth getting or was he just talking crap? i think they run the same size filter so i dont think it would make much difference...

Induction works well if the current airbox setup has twist and turns in the intake pipe.....I have tested this with my vr6....Havent messed around much with the e46.....But if you manage to fit those thick bendy type pipes from the bottom grill on the bumper directly to the air box im sure this will make a good difference...Once done try and see if the pipe you put in is sorta air tight....If you pump the accelerator quick you get that sucking sound get someone to put there hand infront of the pipe and see if it sucks hard:mmm:...you know what i mean lol......but yeah it worked for me.....

Dont even think of a cone filter....More noise makes less power:)

The airbox in the car isnt the problem, neither is the air filter. If an M3 can get enough air using a stock paper filter and airbox then a 328i or 323i doesnt need a change there. Its the parts after the filter/airbox that cause some restriction, change your manifold and throttle body to individual throttles, like the e36 m3, or even put the e36 325i manifold with a big bore throttle body, chip it, and feel the difference.

i fitted a cone filter some time ago and lost enough power to feel the difference, then i made a heatsheild out of an old computer chasing, now its just the same as the normal oem box lol. just looks a bit better ;)
