In urgent need of some Help/advice in the Vaal

Hey guys!! Been a while since I've managed to post... I.T. blocked the site at work... My lunch breaks have never been the same!!

So since I was last active of the forum I've bought another fanatic's super clean 318is and I've been loving every minute of it.... Until yesterday... After work.

Tried starting... Starter swings but no ignition. So I'm getting it towed to my flat in vanderbijlpark.

Does anyone know of a good indy in the area? Or are there any fanatics that reckon they could help me troubleshoot?

Thanks in advance!

Hi man.

Congrats and sorry to hear. Clueless abt the car. But share ur frustration abt work. Same here they bllocked it as a social media site. So I go on from my phone.

Abt the car. Did u check ur plugs are firing. Is fuel coming through the injectors. Are ur ignition lights on.

If swinging but not starting in my opinion its either fuel or firing.
Coil etc goes with firing.

Easy to test. Remove a plug. Push it back into the bogi cord. Hold it close to the body and get someone to swing. See if it sparks

With injector a bit harder. Remove rail and injector and get someone to swing and see if it squirts petrol.

Just thinking now. I am sure u checked ur belts. Not sure if it has a timing chain or cambelt. But check tht first also.

Other than that I need u will need someone with a ob cable to run a check.

Thx. Good luck. Let us know the outcome.

Visit Carlos at CARLOS AUTO CENTRE 016 931 1951. He knows hes BMW's

He is in Chrome Street Close to VAAL tech Sports Grounds.

My first thought is crank sensor.. these sensors work 1 minute and dead the next, but as Gizmo said fuel pump or relay could be a good bet too.

Good Luck

Hey guys! Thanks so much for all the replies. Much appreciated.

My initial plan was to get it towed back to my place to check some simple stuff and then if I couldn't find the problem I'd get it towed to one of the recommended workshops. Flash Gordon and my uncle both recommended Auto Tech so decided to just take it straight there.
The crank sensor was just replaced by the previous owner so it was unlikely that it was the cause.
Turns out it was the fuel pump. They put in a test 1 and the car was starting. Parts came late on Friday though so I'll have her back on Monday.

I'll let you know about the service I get from Auto Tech, but they've been great so far. Good to know about Carlos too though.

Thanks again gents! I'll keep you posted.

So it was the fuel pump indeed. Car's running 100% again. Starting first time every time. The guys were really good.. Friendly and even offered to bring my car to me because I would have had no way to get back to them from work. It was a tad pricey but you get what you pay for. I'd def go back if I need work done and I'm in the Vaal.
