fwaak i dont want a V8 anymore :fencelook:

Why? :mmm:

20l/100km is more than double what i use on the e46 with my foot flat most of the time...

I will rather not add my 2c to it

thats because if you add your 2c next month your injectors/fuel pump/and turbo will go

Hahaha :biglol:

Quoting fuel consumption without context doesn't give us much to go on. When last was it serviced? has it had a diagnostics check done recently?

Car: 1998 540i
Consumption for last 3 months (according to "ACar" Android app): 14.12 L /100km

Mostly driven from Bayers Naude to Rivonia and back on my daily work commute. Average speed is maybe 60 km/h.

I drive conservatively, unless there is an open road (which there hardly ever is).

I get about 15L/100Km and I drive a straight six.
I'll say about 60% city driving.

And I don't always drive fuel conservative.
Damn V8's are heavy on juice. (20L/100Km ouch!)

I guess we pay to play.

Ps: I've never regret a moment in my car. So yes...I'll rather have more horses under the bonnet. I also think it all depends where you drive.

My 2003 540 M Sport manual is not driven every day, I work from home, one of the reasons I decided to buy the car in the first place, as I knew I would not use it every day.

I am very happy/fortunate with my consumption, it is a combination of urban and highway driving. Last time I filled the tank I was on 650kms it showed I could do another 70kms and the consumption was 9.7l/100kms.:joy:

I don’t think I have gotten less than 600kms since I’ve had the car in January. I drive very conservatively, I immediately go from third to sixth, but don’t get me wrong on the open road it’s not very easy to always stick to 120kms/h.

As Johann point's out, they CAN be pretty reasonable on the consumption side, depending on what driving you are doing. It is perhaps easier to have more control over one's consumption with a manual as well. I drive a pretty balanced combined cycle and rarely average over 13l/ 100. In winter, when I don't need the aircon as much, it rarely goes over 12l/ 100. I don't consider myself a conservative driver at all, but I don't do no street racing either...

I also have a similar problem with my E28 525e, car just uses too much juice. I do about 15L/100km in the city and about 12L/100km in the open. Car is due for a major service but was like that even before service light went on. Car also has a fuel smell when travelling on open roads/higher speeds but locally doesn't.

Could it be O2 sensors or injectors? and what price are new O2 sensors?.....

**Will book a service for the car, but would love to know what might be the cause.
