Importing a car

So I have been speaking to a buddy of mine who now lives overseas and he is considering bringing his E30 M3 to SA.

If we can manage to get around the SARS/Customs/Import dilemma, what do you think a reasonable selling price would be (ballpark)?

I do not have much information at the moment, other than it has been recently restored, but would like to hear what you think it would be worth here - R250k, R350k, R600k ???

You can bring it in as a collectors item. LHD might be an issue.
If it is very/completely original, an EVO, you could get upwards of R500k

Other wise what the market dictates.

Don't you need to hold on to it for a couple of years (in this country) before you can sell it?

Check the ITAC site for the import guidelines for second-hand cars. As it stands, you cannot bring in any LHD cars.

Won't you get more for it if you sell it overseas?? :dunno::dunno:

I doubt it as they can get it easier and import easier. here the people go nanas for it because its rare and cant get it here

So here the deal guys
The attached link gives you an idea of the cheapest E30 - Around R160k
A container to ship to SA is around R21k
Then,if your buddy is an ex pat,he wont pay any duty and needs to keep the car in his name for a year before he sells it on.
If hes not,then theres a 100% duty.Which stands you R350k cost.

Oh ...and goodluck with SARS...THIEVING BASKETS

No LHD imports so will have to be converted to RHD. This has been done a number of times in the UK (not a huge issue just costly).
There was one in very rough shape that went for R180k about 2-3 months ago. It was an evo1 and really needed love.
From experience i can say that you import a car not to resell them. The costs of local work on them make them very unattractive.
