C. COLLECTORS VEHICLE

What is a collector’s car? It is usually seen as a vehicle which has some unique characteristics to it. Some samples would be:

-Mazda RX7 Turbo
-Citroen 2CV
-Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 SWB
-Toyota Supra Twin-Turbo

The collector status of a vehicle is determined by certain South African government agencies – which would consult motoring clubs for opinions.

Unlike other classifications of used car imports, it is not required that you must have owned the vehicle for more than six months in the country of export. Thus, you can buy the vehicle and import it immediately once the import permits has been granted.

>>>they should have more examples...

I think it is deliberately vague and obtuse to prevent people from importing their own cars.

Remember the Guvmint takes 40% tax or something stupid for new car imports so people importing collector cars for cheap cuts their tax.

In the UK you can import anything you want as long as it is over 10 years old. This apratheid era draconian import law we have is a fkn shit thing. It stifles choice and inventiveness. Image if we could import cheap, cool cars with out limitation? We would have a massive tuning and servicing industry, Saffas are already huge petrolheads, imagine if cars were half the price we pay like the rest of the world? I would have at least 5 cars.

guys have done extensive research on this as im based abroad and want to import a few cars.

firstly to avoid the taxation - you need to be abroad for a period of 2 years + , therafter vehicle has to be RHD ( sucks as im in a LHD country ) , then you need to ensure paperwork is all in order.....

i would definetly love to meet someone who know his/her way around this and happily pay a fee for their handy work....anyone know of that person:ty:
