Idling problem

Hi

I'm actually hoping someone has experienced the same problem I have with my e46 318i 8 valve. I am driving it for the past 7 years, by now it's part of the family...had problems but never ever left me stranded.

To come to the point, it's struggling to idle, replaced the ICV at great expence. Troubleshoot code indicates ICV but the new one does work, you can see the idling on the rev counter increase a little when switching the AC on but the idling stays at about 5-600 rpm and fluctuates up and down continuously but only does this when the engine has heated up.

I have tried a lot of things so by now I am desperate to try any thing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Try cleaning the MAF or replaceing and see what happens. If the problem still persists then I'd suggest having the codes read. Could be a faulty camshaft or crankshaft sensor.

Have you checked the CVV (crankcase ventilation valve)? These also tend to go over time and also cause idle issues. Does the car consume oil at all?
One easy test is to remove the oil filler cap while the car is idling and check for suction. If there is alot of suction when you lift the cap, CVV likely needs replacement.
