As you all know I had a Strange IDOL. :). So today at 15:44 I decided to quickly take it out and clean it. Here is a quick Photo DIY. (my real first attempt at DIY to share with you)

E46 318 I A/T Tourer 2005 (Remember this has the E90 Airbox setup.)

IVC Cleaned but seems I still have the strange Idol :excited:. So what is next to attempt.

Also desperatly need to decat as I think the cats are tired. Strange Sulpher smell from exhaust.

Hope this helps some one.

Sorry Just realised my mistake. Throttle body DIY. :) Yes call me a noob.

:censored:Throttle body DIY:banghead:

If it's a E90 your car doesn't have a ICV, it has valvetronic which varies the lift of the intake valves to control the idle as well as engine speed.

Is this true on mine as I now did the trottle body but am stumped on Iddle valve???

nice write up, found it very useful. thanks.

i have a 2003 318 N42, i assume you have the N46.

haynes manual says N42 doesn't have ICV, idling is controlled in the manner mentioned above.

i would think the same would apply for the N46.

Correct the N42 has... and get this...

Vanos, Variable Valve Timing, DISA, actuated throttle bodies, drive by wire, it makes for a very complicated motor to what is supposed to be a entry level BMW.

I recon the N42 and N46 are virtually the same thing, they just fixed some of the snags, I know the VVT computer sits in a differant controller between the two, perhaps integrated into the DME ?

I've also done the throttle body clean, but on my 318 it didn't make much difference.. When I did it on my passat on the other hand, sheeeeezzz it was like a bat out of hell!
