The BMW i3 is available in either pure electric model at R 525 000, or the i3 Range Extender (or REx) with electric motor supplemented by a tiny 2-cylinder engine which acts as generator to re-charge the battery when needed, selling for R 595 000.

The BMW i8 is the high-performance sports car hybrid, using a 3-cylinder 1.5 turbo and powerful electric motor, for 0-100km/h acceleration possible in 4.4 seconds, yet using only 2.1 l/100km combined. It sells for R 1 775 000.

Yeah... still undecided about the i8 at that price... Not sure if a 1.5l turbo will tick the EPIC box which you'd expect forking out R1.8m for a car.

If I was shopping in that price range I wouldn't even test drive the i8. Porsche here I come... Oh wait, I'm NOT shopping in that price range.

The problem is not only the price, The i3 is not even a nice car...
The i8 well is very special although not sure if it justifies the price tag

Considering the Nissan Leaf is R480 000.... the i3 pricing is not that bad. I would rather pay R45k extra and not drive a Datsun.

I'd rather pay R45k extra and drive a M135 :praise:

I have to concur. The reviews of the i8 especially have not been all that spectacular. TBH, if I were looking to spend close to R1.8-bar on a car I would rather buy an M6 convertible or hold out for the upcoming S-Class Coupe. #justsaying

Mind you, looking around on carfind I would probably spend R1.4m on a 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo and save R400k for maintenance.

I disagree, the reviews have been fantastic.

The car is not a 911 agreed, but it has a lot more to offer from an overall car POV, from a pure drivers car POV it may fall short, but not everbody is after that.

It made EVO's top cars of 2014 list, Topgears car of the year, chris harris said its fantastic, so did harry if I recall correctly.. and the list can go on..

BMW Power.

For that kind of money its going to be a V8 and have more than one turbo :fencelook:
