I was asked: "Why do you have an M3...???"

Some decent answers here, thanks.Mines a bit of a garage ornament though.Have a 1.3d Astra for the week and the prancing horses come out in the weekend.Done 4500kms in 8 months.Everytime the garage door opens on a Saturday morning, theres a cheeky grin on my face.

I'm in the same boat as you, ok my 330 ain't no 1.3d Astra  but i still drive the M the way its meant to be driven, however occasionally which is every time I drive it, which itsn't mush :roflol:

Those who don't have an M3 want one, and those that do will have a bit of bmw history and the sheer driving pleasure. :inlove:

Let's not lie now, the AMG and Audi RS are "nice", but then again who wants a nice car, when you can have the best? :praise:

for me the m3 must have go first. the sound is not 1st on my life. the sound will come. maybe not as nice as the v8 sound, but that will soon be forgotten with the extra oompf at high and low altitudes.

"If its not broken why fix it"- the only issues in the EU is fuel economy. That's the reason they've gone for the turbo config. It's started with the efficient dynamic engines, then the Start stop on the competition pack e 92 .the true essence of M is normally aspirated IMO

depends which side of the fence you look at it. i dont think its broken but i think it can be improved which is what the new m3 seems to address for me. Just like the new v8 bi-turbo m5 is an improvement over the e60 v10 m5. the current e9x m3 with a little supercharger would make me happy too.

whatever side of the fence we are on, i am pretty sure bmw wont let any of us down with the new m3

I disagree that driving an M car is only meant to be on the edge.

Just a normal drive at correct speeds on a twisty road is a pleasure.
Overtaking with earth shattering acceleration.
Taking off at the traffic lights with a perfect launch and them hitting 60km/h before the other cars are over the line:praise: (I am the only person who tries to get caught by the red light, time it so I am in front of the line).
Braking later, pulling out comfortably into a traffic gap that be heart stopping in a normal car.
Kicking the back out on wet roads for fun, and getting the perfect feel for what the car is doing through the steering.

Then there are track days:joy:

Agree with the statements made, It's a special car and designed to be the best all rounder. Because it can go around a track doesn't mean you have to 24/7. Because you have a girlfriend you don't need to have 'special time' all the time. All things considered it's an epic car at a premium price. If one can afford one, you will feel special all the time :)

I've been asked the same about my 540 by my friends... especially when I mention the 20L/100km for driving to work and back. I've taken them for a ride in it and they get the whole power thing, but the power isn't even half the story. One day me and my brothers decided to drive to a little coast town (Rooi Els) from Somerset west and the best way to get there is on the R44 that goes all along the mountain against the coast. I was only driving quick, not fast, just quick and it was fantastic.

I love everything about how this car drives even if I'm only able to do 60km in traffic. I believe it's the same with M3's or any M car for that matter 'cos even when stuck in traffic it's still way better to drive than you "normal" cars.
