I think the inside of my taillights melted

Hi guys, I noticed something strange, my rear lights have been fine all along until last week, it looks like the lights melted on the inside, I have no idea how this could have happened, has anybody seen or experienced this? The left one looks bad

Haven't seen the lenses melted before, I have had the bulb holder melt and it caused some slight damage on the inside of the light fitting. But I've never seen it visible from the outside...

Happened to my dads car. Exact same thing.

Turned out that the brake and park light swopped on the one side. So when the lights were on the brake light stayed on and melted the light.

Also make sure that the right watt bulbs were fitted

The inner housing on my E90 LCI melted like that - it was burnt black and the plastic was all warped.. Never seen the actual light in the state your's is in.. wow :fencelook:

Did BMW change the whole housing? Did they say what caused it? Was it both lights or just one side?

I have seen this a few times.

I actually have it on the E65 as well, reverse lights were left on, thus melting the outside light.

Well what happened is that I did complain once when the left light was not working, so they said it was a bulb - they replaced the bulb and I was on my way.

Some time later it happened again and then they showed me the unit melted and BMW replaced both inner light units (complete) under maintenance plan. They just said it happens and it's a manufacturers fault with the unit.

Car is booked in for the 6th, I will definitely be taking this up with the dealer.

Anyone else recently had this issue? Mine has melted to the exact extent as OP but there is nothing wrong with my wiring, bulbs haven't been replaced, and I sure as hell do not ever use my rear fogs... No motor plan so won't bother with BMW just as yet.
