Hope someone can help!

I drove my BMW323i to work, parked it, and later wheni went to move it, it started, ideled for about half a minute and then it died. i restarted it, it idled and died again! now it will not start, the engine turns, but it just wont start. got a person out to look he says...there is no compression, he thinks the timing chain has broken, which means i have bent valves....etc, however a second mechanic says he does not hear any "knocking " associated with bent valves, and the car would start but miss fire....ok so being a girl what do i know....any ideas ...should i set the bloody car alight, and have beers and a braai, or is there maybe something else wrong where its not gonna cost me the earth..please guys i need honesty and guidance...this bloody car is now starting to piss me off...tash

could be the chain , if the chain has broken then you wont hear the valves case the camshafts are attached via the chain wich open and close the valves.
check the plugs and see if there is spark.
dont get me wrong but check if you have petrol..

I seriously doubt you have a broken chain....When you turn the ignition can you hear the fuel pump priming? It may be easier if you have someone listening for it in the back seat. You would also need to have the codes read for faults stored on the ECU-it could be a duff sensor or an airleak

I would also try and listen for the fuel pump. Not sure what BMW you drive though? E46? In any case, I think the fuel pump should be making a zzzzz noise? Some with a E46 could confirm?

Sounds to me like a fuel pump. My friend's e36 did the same thing a few months back. He was driving fine, when to pick his wife up from work and when he tried to start the car again it started for a few seconds and died, we couldn't ge her started again and called a mechanic of mine and he said sounds like a fuel pump, we swopped it out and car was 100's! when you try start her does it sound like she wants to start but just can't?

What car is it?

You will clearly hear an engine that top and bottom is not turning together, it sounds like an air pump.

Fact that it died, then started, then refused to start means for sure that its not a chain, chains do not rejoin themselves for a few seconds.

I am thinking its fuel related as well. and +1 on reading codes, it always gives you so much more info...

To read codes you take it to a mechanic (preferably a BMW specialist), he'll plug his laptop into the car and the computer will read the codes and then he"ll be able to tell you whats wrong.

Thats when you plug in a computer to the car to read the error codes, it will give you an indication as to what is wrong, the codes can also be misleading at time, but its a start.

Where is the car stading ?

With a hostile thread topic like that I am too afraid to even comment. Getting codes read is a good start though.

+1 Maybe also check the fuse for the petrol pump :dunno:

+1 on the petrol pump fuse. Had a similar problem and it turned out to be a blown fuse.
