Hi Guys,

I've got this itch that is keeping me from sleeping for days now. I'm currently driving an awesome little city golf which has been paid off years ago and that made me really happy ... till recently.

Now I "need" to buy a BMW 1 Series. I've never driven a BMW or felt the need to drive one but now i HAVE to.

I'm looking at getting a 2011 model or later for less than R200k. Do you think I can get a decent ride for the price?

My wife drives a 2008 Honda CRV and I honoustly don't want a big car nor a big installment.

Your opinion will be much appreciated.

Your best bet is the E90 320d lci. Power and economy in one package.

You can't tell him to get a 3 series when he wants a 1 series, man.
Tell him he needs a 5er :tiptoe:

I guess the best question to ask is what do you expect from the car? Luxury? Power? Fuel consumption? Ride comfort?

The 1 series in my opinion are basic versions of a BMW (in most cases) unless you go to a 135i. But they are more pricey when it comes to maintenance. I would suggest maybe going the diesel route as they gove brilliant consumption, nice torque and a nice drive quality. The 1 series compared to the 3 series there aren't much of a difference in the size of the car. However, you will find more options available in a 3 series and most importantly more parts availability.

However, in all check boxes you will def be upgrading if you go golf to bmw. Only downside will be fuel consumption if you go the petrol route.

Never buy a car, any car, with your heart. BMW's are awesome machines and BMW is rated second on the Forbes List in terms of cars. There must obviously be a reason for that - 1 Toyota, 2 BMW, 3 Mercedes Benz... But that was not your question.
To avoid overpaying for a car check the retail price in the "guide" car sales people use to rob you from your money. Any decent library worth its salt should have one.
If you look to trade your Golf you will also find the trade-in value. A 2011 model will most likely be over above 100000k's. So keep repairs and service costs in mind.
Do your homework FIRST!!!

Bought my first BMW on Saturday. 2013 F20 118i 47000 km's balance of motorplan at Continental Cars - BMW for R235 000. Loaded with extras.

Feel really good about the deal.

What do you think ? Still need to finalise finances so it is not too late to back out.
