I notice basic quality issues.

Get in a X1 and feel the inner door handle - sharp edges

Open the storage lid where the Optional screen should be - Hard to open and cheap.

And these pics out of a 2010 E90 320i Budget rental that Leo Haese paid for because they had to keep the 730d for a week.

crazy bro, and we dont pay peanuts for these cars either, quality should not be negotiable, after all quality is the reason most of us buy BMW

Must say i also noticed this with the newer range e90
sharp edges, exposed panels etc. the non digital aircon dails in the e90 also feels cheap. when u move the gauges it feels they not connected to anything

i think its recession related BMW held back on the workmanship. :dunno:

I recently had to take my car to bmw to have the gearlever replaced with a facelift's E90 gearlever because the trim came off and formed a sharp edge and subsequently cut my wife's finger.:censored:

Can you believe that?

BMW quality in the E90 is good. much better than on teh E46. but i would like to see and improvement.

As for those warped air vents: it is becuase of the sun that it is so damaged.

but they should not warp due to the sun its a BMW !!!!!

rental cars are also put though their paces for all we know those bent vents are probably due to a group of homeless people having a orgy in the car known as a soup kitchen (got that from the movie "The Other Guys") LOL

@ Ricky not to start a fight or hi-jack the thread i think the e46 is better than the e90 in terms of looks and build quality- not starting sh!t just my opinion
have two e46's and one e90 and a ex e87(120i) the cheapness of the materials in the newer BMW's are bland and shocking

The one thing I have noticed about the e90's and 1er's are that the the inside feels really cheap, it looks nice and smells nice, but there where some things that bothered me. The worst of this, and this might sound very anal (and probably is), but when adjusting the air vents in the car the plastic just felt cheap loose and scratchy, and at this time I was still driving a '98 opel corsa, so I knew what cheep felt like. This was unlike on the e46 where the things felt firm and just of an all together better quality.
But this just the insane ramblings of one person rambling about adjusting air vents so pay no notice :)

(I must say that the stuff in the e60 is awesome though and of a very high quality, including the air vents :p)

Agreed the 1st gen 1-series and FL e90's have cheapish plastics interior wise

If you are saying BMW is bad, then you are going from bad to worse.
When you get the C63, then please give us a full write-up about the build quality, dynamics and overall package/value for money. And also how much it lived up to your expectations and the hype.

I was always under the impression that mercs are very reliable, but I have been hearing a lot of bad things of mercs. From what I heard it seems like you buy a merc on kind of a timeshare basis, where you have it for 40% of the time and the dealer has it for the other 60%, of course this is just what I heard, have never owned a merc. Never really been a merc fan, but they do have some good looking cars.

Mercedes vs BMW vs Audi

I was in the fortuanate position a while back where i could decide which of these German Manfactures I could have as a vehicle, after doing extensive research and driving all of the above here is my layman's findings in a nutshell:

Audi A4 2.0tdi 2008:

The interior of this car sells it, beautiful trimming, loaded with extras that you pay for at other dealers. Engine performance...very poor in comparison to the BMW 320d. Infact you have to fork out 40-50k more than the BMW's price to get the same performance. 8 Speed gearbox sucks, specially in 'sportmode' where feels like it wants to give you a whiplash. Good finance package.

Merc 220Cdi 2008 Avangarde:

Good interior, some extras like the radio lcd screen display in the dash, feels plastic thou. Performance is better than the Audi, but still lugish in comparison, no mayor performace diffrence in 'Sportmode'. Car did not impress at all, still feels like a 'old mans' car even thou it doesnt look like it anymore. Also a bit on the pricy side for what you get. Very poor finance package.

BMW 320d 2007 Sport:

Exterior looks... This is a sexy car, I dont care where you stand, each angle makes you want to look again, 18" wheels, Xenons and PDC are extras. Interior, yes is plastic, in comparison to the Audi, but definately not in comparison with the Merc. The alluminiuim strips gives at a sporty feel, mix the black rooflining in and the whole feel of the car changes, then grip that thick M Sport steering wheel and you just want to drive it.... loooooong and haaaaaard.

Sport seats are better than Audi and Merc, so is the total overall package and performance. The best finance package in the marker with up to 40k trading assits. To me its a clear choice, but then Im on my 7th BMW so I might be bias... :)

A friend of mine is on his 2nd BMW and had 2 Mercs before that. He also feels that Merc has gone a bit too plastic.

A German will be shot at dawn when BMW sees how that vents look...:mmm:

My dad has owned two Mercs..a 1996 c280 and a 2005 c320 cdi. The c280 i wrote off...because i heard my dad was gonna pass it on to me..hehe, but seriously that Merc had 280 000km on it and stil did not show any problems, even with a auto gearbox. The c320 pulls like crazy even at high speeds. Its a great engine BUT every time i get into a BMW i just grin from ear to ear. Its just more exciting..

Good luck with the Merc bud..great car...but every time you pass me, which you will no doubt, just know im smiling at my car

I also own a Merc, - 1976 W115 230.4 fully restored, been in our family since new she has done 400000+ km and only her head has been replaced. She drives softer and smoother in my opinion than the new Mercs. Bella, as we call her, is parked under a taupaulin inside the garage and she gets driven once a month for 40km after a wash and polish.

The air vent cover doesn't even seem to fit properly in the dash. They just don't make them like they used to. :dunno:
