Okay, so I'm looking to trade in the ///M and get something with four doors due to the new arrival. Went to a "normal" second hand car dealership and was offered R190k (without negotiating). Bearing in mind that trade is R188k I thought that the offer wasn't too bad. So today I notice this awesome 2009 335i with 15k km's at my local stealership and decided to have a look. Took it for a test and was blown away - made me fall in love with turbo cars all over again. I really had my heart set on this car as I falls nicely into my budget and has everything I need. Get back to the stealership only to be told they're offering me R150k on my car. Told them very nicely to get stuffed and I will carry on looking at buying, but not from a BMW stealership....

They obviously overpaid for the 335i, and now want to pass that on to you. Very often your trade in value is determined by what you are trading against.

BMW dealerships are out to nail you on trade in's.

My uncle went to trade in his 2007 330i, exclusive with all the extras for a brand new 335, they offered him R120k for his car. Mileage is less than 50 000km on his car. Madness i tell you...

This was my problem with Audi and why I lost faith in the brand..

If they are not even prepared to buy back their own cars, why should you support the brand... Dont tell me BMW is doing the same :(

BMW used to give you at least a market related trade in, even if they were going to pass out to the trade

Yesterday my buddy and I went to the local BMW stealership as he wanted to extend the motorplan on his 2005 320i. BTW, he had already received an e-mail from the stealership advising him that it would cost him about R3500 to extend for 1 year / 20 000km's. When we got there he found out that it would cost over 7 grand for 1 year / 20 000km's. He told them to piss off and would contact Motorplan directly. As we were walking out, he saw the salesman who sold him the car and after a brief chat they were negotiating for a new 320i. The salesman told him that the trade on his car was about R114k which seemed to shock him. He said he was expecting R180k. The salesman didn't seem to bothered by that and said that he could possibly work a deal whereby he would use the discount on the new car to get the trade to R180k......R66k difference. Bearing in mind that my buddy is just going to buy a 320i auto with exclusive pack, it seems that some dealerships have got a lot more room to negotiate with whilst others just want to screw you to the floorboards....The salesman is expected to call him today to confirm the deal.

180k for a 320i?

I know.........this was a classic horse trade that I'm still laughing about. Anyways, who cares what the salesman does to make this deal work out. If it happens, I just know that my buddy will be 1 happy chappy!

Sorry, just checked with my buddy and apparently the salesman said that the trade value was R140k and not R114k as I heard. So I suppose with the trade assist that BMW offers (was previously R30k) added to the value of my buddy's car it is plausible that he could get R180k but no discount on the new vehicle.........

The 'trade assist' that most motor manufacturers offer is simply another way of putting 'screw discount'. You get R40k extra for you 'junk' (cause the dealer always loses when buying in cars...), but don't worry since we've already added it to your new car...

HI
I would recomend S4 Auto in boksburg, they normally have a good selection of cars and if they dont have what you want theyll more then likely be able to get it for you, I traded and Astra Opc in for my 135i and i got a pretty good deal, they gave me quite a reasonable trade and the nocked off a couple of bucks of the 135i, if you do happen to go there speak to Mohammed and let him know JP sent you!!
