The MF POFS 318 is running hot again!! I am so gatvol of this crap I could set the MF POFS alight. Pity i wont get my bloody money back from the insurance.

didn't u just redo the engine bro ? maybe its something else.... check radiator and waterpump.... also run water thru the channels with hose pipe and see if their not blocked...

Lemme give you the rundown.
From Langebaan down Westcoast Road, all good.
Turn left at the Melkbos turnoff on that throughroad between Westcoast road and n7, runs hot, 3/4.
On the N7 down towards durbanville, runs normal, Turn left on the road between N7 and back of Durbanville, runs hot 3/4.
I stopped there by Meerendal with the gauge on 3/4. Pop the bonnet, was expecting the engine to be pinging hot. No ways. i could even touch the head and engine block without burning my fingers.
Close up, keys in the ignition, temp gauge on normal, fire up the engine, temp gauge jumps to just under full temp. Within less than 5 seconds, temp gauge on normal.
Now I ask you ? WTF??

If the guage says the engine is overheating yet you are able to place your hand on it with no problems, it could be the temp guage sender sensor that is malfunctioning? You would have to test it with an ohm meter to see if it is in spec at certain temperatures...
Get hold of someone with an E36 Bentley manual for the particular ohm readings...

I agree that its a temp sender unit failure, and nic's suggestion about the air bubbles sounds plausable considering the motor has just been pulled apart.
Dont despair dude, you are bound to have some teething problems after a motor rebuild..

I am having them test all the possibilities. Bleed the radiator, check/ replace the temp sensor, check the thermostat.
Now the viscous? It's bellows air out of there, much more effective than ever, after they replaced the fan clutch. Can it still be faulty?

I agree, certainly sounds like gauge or sender unit failure. If it works like most other cars, it works by having a temperature thermistor (device of which resistance changes with heat) attached to some part of the engine. As engine heat goes up, resistance goes down. The gauge in the car is effectively a current-meter (couple milli-amps usually).
On most cars, if you remove the wire from the sender, and ground it on the body the gauge shoots all the way into the red. Don't know about beemers yet. I suspect a short anywhere on that wire or a faulty sender could cause weirdness.
