So after my accident, my car was finally ready for collection today. Was all excited and went through this morning to collect.

This best explains my reaction after the first 10 seconds of looking at the car: :cursin:

Before I could say anything, the guys tried to rush me into accepting the car, saying that there is a 1 year gaurantee on their work and 3 years on the paint. They though I'd be all excited about how shiny and new the car looked ... they were mistaken.

Long story short, total damages was +/- R87K, but the bonnet was not aligned properly (f^&%*n huge panel gaps which a blind guy can spot), bumper was not aligned properly, A pillar had cracks, windscreen rubber was not seated properly. According to their "internal" quality checks the car was fine :dunno:

Anyway, left the car there and informed my insurance that I did not collect/accept the car due to poor work. Given the nature of the place and type of vehicles they repair, I guess I was sadly mistaken in expecting a good quality job.

And they thought it was a small issue that my bonnet stripes are no longer there :slap:

F*&Ken chancers :cursin: :cursin: :cursin:

Will wait till next week and see what happens .... I was fairly calm with them today. If the car is not 100% next week, they are gonna see their name and reputation dragged through the mud ...

Don't back down they are making goos $ out of your insurance and you deserve good quality in return.

The shiny paint is the last thing you look at, the structure and alignment count the most, shiny paint can be redone any time.

Yep, don't intend to back down. Once I get the car back, will take it to someone reputable for a full checkup and log a complaint with RMI, insurance company, etc if it is not 100%.

I had the same run. The moment you collect, the first thing they want you to do is sign the release. It is you RIGHT to deny less than perfect workmanship from an insurance fix (or any fix if you are paying for it for that matter)
I didn't sign once I saw that my bumper was replaced skew and now matter how upset the receptionist and her senior was, I turned around, walked out and only went back a couple of days later to fetch my car once I were satisfied with the fix.

You did right by not making a scene of the crappy workmanship, sometimes they get away with it if a customer is not really that into his car, but you gave them the chance to make good and I hope they use the opportunity. Good luck, cause if they don't THEN YOU GIVE THEM HELL!

Thing is about this industry...

Your supposed to get what your paid for.

You expect cheap ass repairs to be done when you pay cheap, which is usually the case when dealers do repairs on cars before the sale.

But when you pay mega bucks, you expect the guys to make sure its decent.

Panelbeating has a profit margin of about 50% to 60%, think about it on your almost 90k bill

It pisses me off, and what these idiots do not realise, most of your business is repeat business, instead of ripping the crap out of the guy once off, do a decent job, one that you will be proud of, and you will get him next time when he scratches it, when his wife dings his car, when his daughter or son hits the pole...

I will have my shop one day....

Sorry for not posting an update earlier.

Anyway, collected the car just over a week ago and to my surprise, the guys actually did a good job. The "bill" ended up being closer to R81K as well, but at least the car was done properly. I guess it helps to complain ... Drove the car around for a week and it was fine.

In any case, while waiting I bought a 330i and decided to keep that as my daily driver. The Mini is currently up for sale at a dealership :bawling:

Good for you!!!

It happens all the time that clients get ripped off by these guys charging much more than normal only because this is an insurance claim.

There is not always control over the cost on the bill and what I would pay cash if I did not have insurance...... much like medical cost at certain specialists.

I am sooooo g#tvol of being ripped off and hearing about clients been ripped off!!

We should stand our ground

Happy Beeming!!
